So I just wanted to toss this out there.
Couple years back I put a couple dollars into a film project. Not much, three figures. It was through indigogo.
Not much but of course the way this sort of thing works is that a bunch of people put in not that much and then you have some thing and then you can go and do your project, good luck.
So I think things are going well, then Covid hit, and the filmmaker sort of stopped communicating. I didn’t really think much about it, actually I didn’t think anything about it. Well the other day I get an email as did a lot of the other small amount contributors.
I should say right now that in return for my contribution I was promised a executive producer credit.
But apparently the filmmaker somewhere along the process of making this film, hooked up with some other executive producer who was able to put up a larger sum of money as well as contribute other resources. This allowed the filmmaker to make a bigger and better film.
To that I offer congratulations. To find someone with deeper pockets who appreciates your project and is willing to help you make that project is a great and rare thing.
However, this professional executive producer has decided that he wants to be the only executive producer. So those of us who put up the starting funds, small amounts of starting funds, well, he doesn’t want us to be executive producers because we’re not real executive producers in his eyes.
Now at first they didn’t bother me but the more I thought about it the more it pi**ed me off because basically who does this co******er think he is. Not the filmmaker, the professional executive producer.
I don’t know about the other contributors, but I am not some Joe fu***ng schmo who scraped together three bills and contributed them toward the film for the sake of having my name in the credits and impressing my family or friends or some girl I wanted to sleep with. And the more I thought of it the more angry I got about it.
I finished a feature film last year for not a inconsiderate amount of money. That very same day I had signed a distribution deal for that film. I’m putting the finish touches on another feature that was also made for a not in considerable amount of money. And I would suspect that within a few weeks if not by the new year that film also will have been signed to a distribution deal.
So, this smug, swarmy, looking down your nose attitude did not sit well with me. that this as***le would put this filmmaker in that position tells me everything I need to know about this so called executive producer. I warned the filmmaker to watch his ass around these people or this person or whatever and to not even bother putting my name on the credits anywhere.
I do wish him well.
