Sept. 1 is when my parents' lives changed forever. My father was a soldier in the Polish Army. On September 10 he was taken prisoner of war and spent the entire war in Germany.
On Sept. 17 the Soviets invaded my mom's village, in a pact with the Germans. She saw Polish soldiers trying to beat back the Russians, on that day. Later in the war she survived a German bombing, and saw the Russians return. You'll hear her tell the story during this coming Saturday's show.
