We will begin a post edition of "Scout's Eye" providing insight and stories from 15 years on the road as an MLB Scout.

Exit velocity gets the attention — but no scout I know evaluates a hitter off one number. Here's what I'm actually watching for: Bat speed — how fast the barrel moves, not just the result. Contact quality — where it met the ball, how it came off (Listen! Says a lot). Pitch recognition and swing decisions (CRUCIAL) — did the player get their pitch, did they get off their "A" swing? What did they do with it? Adjustability — what happens when the pitch wasn't what they may have been looking for? Athleticism and the rest of the at-bat — how they move, how they compete in the box. The data adds context. It never replaces the eyes or ears.

Development has to fit real family schedules. Medici Baseball & Training Center members receive round-the-clock access to cages and training space in Brownsburg. Get work in before school, after practice, or even late at night if your a night owl. Convenience does not replace a plan, but it makes consistent training possible.
