ABOUT THE BA'SIK JAM SESSION:
Established way back in 2012, the Ba’sik Jazz Jam Session has enjoyed becoming a neighborhood staple in this quaint part of Brooklyn, nestled between Greenpoint and Bushwick, today known as East Williamsburg, and it is officially one of the longest running (if not the longest running) jazz jam sessions in all of NYC that has been run by the same host (saxophonist, Mat
t La Von) and in the same location, throughout its existence of more than 10 years and counting (since August 19th, 2012). The session is proud to be a part of the bar Ba’sik, a neighborhood favorite and Brooklyn destination location for a friendly atmosphere, great cocktails, amazing staff, and unique bar food. As of June 4th, 2023, the Bā'sik Jazz Jam Session is officially a KEYED UP event and brought to you by Jazz Generation (www.jazzgeneration.org)
Every Sunday, from 7pm to 10pm, thə bā-sik hau̇s band hosts up and coming and established musicians from all over New York City, as well as throughout the country and internationally, who come out to sit in. Each week is treated as a special event where musicians who rarely play together in organized settings come together to improvise jazz standards in the New York City jazz tradition and entertain an extremely receptive crowd of local regulars and night-trippers to East Williamsburg. This is a "low tolerance for vibing" and very organized jam session where musicians and vocalists of all levels are invited to play and celebrate this great music. If you are an instrumentalist or vocalist and you want to sit in on a tune from the standard jazz repertoire, just introduce yourself to either Matt La Von (or whoever is leading the band that night) and/or sign in on the sign in sheet which is usually on the little table to your left as soon as you walk through the door. THERE’S NO HOUR LONG HOUSE BAND SET AT THIS SESSION. We open it up within the first couple of tunes, so if you get there early, then chances are you will get to play multiple times throughout the night.
