This Thursday we’ve got a seriously special night of two-stepping planned for y’all at . 💃🪗🔥

And if you’ve ever been lucky enough to stumble upon busking down in the NYC subway system — you already know. If not, now’s your chance. This incredible Bronx-based Norteño group first stopped us in our tracks one random afternoon underground and we immediately knew we had to bring them into the Swamp orbit. Their heartfelt songs, subway-forged sound, and beautiful accordion-driven music have already started building a real following around the city — and Thursday marks their Jalopy debut!

We’re pairing them with , a killer steel-guitar-driven Cajun band from Western Mass, for an evening celebrating two dance traditions that share the same beating heart: the accordion. Expect crowded dance floors, waltzes, two-steps, Norteño classics, swampy blues, dance lessons, and maybe even a little crossover magic by the end of the night.

Presented in partnership with Association for Cultural Equity as part of their “In Great Accord” program.

✨ Cajun dance lesson by at 7:30pm
✨ Norteño dance lesson (also by Sara) during the break
✨ Sliding scale tickets ($10-30) to keep the dance floor open to everybody

Come dance with us Thursday night at Jalopy. This one’s gonna be special!

We love love love Jesse Lége — truly the grand-père of the festival. He’s been part of Swamp in the City since we first started this thing back in 2018, and it just wouldn’t feel the same without him.

Here’s a clip of Jesse alongside Luke Huval, Kelli Jones, Jo Vidrine, and Trey Boudreaux aboard the historic Waterfront Museum during Thursday’s kickoff party. What a beautiful venue for such a beautiful start to the festival.

And thank y’all, dancers, for bringing the joy and filling that old barge with so much life. 💃⚓️🪗

Next up after Swamp in the City: a seriously special night at ❤️‍🔥

On Thursday, May 28, we’re bringing together Cajun + Norteño music for one big joyful dance party featuring Les Taiauts and Odi Norteño — a Bronx-based band we randomly discovered busking in the subway and immediately fell in love with. 🚇💃

We’ll kick things off with a beginner-friendly Cajun dance lesson at 7:30, dance all night to swampy two-steps and heartbreaking waltzes from Les Taiauts, then switch gears with a Norteño dance lesson before Odi Norteño takes over with their electrifying subway-forged sound. And yes… there may be some crossover magic before the night is through ✨

Sliding scale tickets (link in bio) btw $10-30. Presented in partnership with Association for Cultural Equity and supported in part by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs

Come dance with us — this one’s gonna be special.
