One of the reasons elicits such strong emotions for me is that Josh’s grandparents owned a dress factory in the Manhattan Garment Center from the 1950’s until the 80’s.

I’ve seen many photographs of their shop and my visit brought these images to mind immediately.
(Probably had something to do with the aforementioned tears.)

The last image features Ben Dubowski, whom I loved dearly for 15 years, and his giant scissors.

Which he gifted to me.
Forever grateful.

I chose to sit and face the wall of names.
I chose to sit with my back to the audience.
I chose to wear big ugly earphones to block out the noise.

But when I turn around and see your face and see how eager you are to talk it fills me with joy. My cup is full.

It’s ok to talk about hard things.
We can do it.

There have been many compelling moments this week.

Watching the audience write the names of children who have been killed in the last few days. Listening to them say their name.

We do a lot of talking and sometimes there’s a lot of crying. And that’s ok. It’s ok to talk about hard things. We can do it.

Fab first night at the fair!
The visitors were super engaged and surprisingly willing and wanting to talk about the tragedy.

Best comment: “thanking you for blocking out the noise and making important work.

And I was honored.

Hey! Hi!
How was your weekend?
Did you take your kids to soccer? Dance?
Football?

This past weekend (Friday, Saturday and yesterday) 10 kids were shot and killed in this country.

They didn’t get to go to gymnastics class. Or karate. Or anywhere else.

They didn’t go to school today.
And they won’t go to school tomorrow.

Side note: I’ve finished the second quilt in the series “Sleeping Under the Weight”. I became sort of obsessed with the concept of sleeves.

Go home and hug your kids tonight.
Cherish them. I know that I will.

Measurable progress. It’s a thing. If you’re not making measurable progress are you even trying?

We are trying. I am trying. We tried. And I love this whole “pick yourself up and dust yourself off” thing going on today. I’m into. I’m back at it.

Also, these pictures represent the of the first quilt in the series called “sleeping under the weight”. I just took it off the frame on Saturday and now I’m on to the next one!
