Thank you to everyone who came out for the reception yesterday! What a blast! Good news: there’s still one week to see the show before the pieces go to their new owners or my storage, so now or never!

Where’s the bench?! At The Kennedy Center! “Connected Through Time” is on loan for a few weeks to the REACH to Forest Festival at The Kennedy Center. They have all sorts of great exhibits and programming and fun for the whole family. I’ll be doing live chainsaw carving demos this coming weekend, March 2 & 3 from 11-4. (The bench will return to Ken-Gar park at the conclusion of the festival)

Throne and “You and me” Chair with Oak and Cherokee Rose Motif.
Red Oak. 2023.

I had a blast carving these giant white oak leaves into comfortable seats for a park renovation in Atlanta, Georgia. This beloved 4 foot wide red oak (only 88 years old when lightning took it) provided a great opportunity to try a concept inspired by “tu y yo” chairs I saw on a trip to Mérida, Mexico. One log has two seats facing opposite directions so two people can talk to each other face to face. The other is a throne overlooking the golf course. I incorporated the state flower of Georgia, the Cherokee rose, and a few giant acorns. The lobes of three leaves curl around and I made a hole going through each to add to the illusion of delicacy (and to not pool water), thanks to crack cutter and extender. The landscape architect was kind enough to site these on a bed of gravel for drainage, so I expect these will provide a beautiful place to sit and play and enjoy the Georgia days and nights for decades to come.

Thank you for trusting me with this massive project. It was great working with you and making connections with and between the entire community.
