THREE AWARDS LAST NIGHT
Still coming down from the buzz from a very bittersweet evening last night.
Grateful to be even nominated for these, let alone taking home three trophies. Shoutout to Jerry Ryan for organizing this inspiring event.
I took home Hip-Hop Album of the Year, Hip-Hop Track of the Year, and Community Musician of the Year.
None of these are my victories alone. I need to show so much gratitude for Chill Smith and everything he put into the record and into making his studio a home away from home for a short while.
Thanks so much to Pat Noon for mixing the song "Hurt So Bad" that won Hip-Hop Track of the Year. You can add that to your already endlessly impressive resume. I'm so grateful you were able to lend your touch to this extremely personal and emotional song.
And thanks to the people who are in and were in my life the past year and even before that who helped me with all the community outreach I organized. One person cannot win "community musician" alone. It takes a community. So while I'm grateful to receive an award, I'm sharing it with my crew The Chris Rockwell Collective and all the co-organizers who put together all these mutual aid and charity events. When they ask you why we do it, you tell em we do it for the culture.
