Tuesday nights at the library are my favorite. Spooky cats. If you want to join us for free call the Breaux Bridge Public Library and register for the next class. Get on the wait list too. The longer the wait list the more classes we can open.

International Dot Day with K–5!

Over 800 dots came together in this BIG collaboration. Each grade had its own color — K red, 1st orange, 2nd yellow, 3rd green, 4th blue, and 5th purple.

Students explored line and pattern using crayons, pastels, markers, and watercolor.

They LOVE finding their dots in the finished display, and I love seeing all those little dots come together into one big piece of art!

It’s huge. We worked on the parts over the span of two weeks. Today the last classes finished their dots. Then I worked late to get all of the kids art pieces put up today. 850+ parts in this collaboration. So cool to see it all together. The kids are excited to find their dots too. While I’m a long term sub for an elementary art teacher. I get to do cool stuff like this.

I’m so excited about this project!

Inspired by The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, we’re creating one HUGE collaborative artwork made by 800+ students!

I sketched out the basic design in the photo I’m sharing. Over the next two weeks, every grade will create their own dot in their assigned color, and we’ll bring them all together to create the finished rainbow piece.

Our older students will also add positive words and encouragement for our younger artists. I love the idea of students literally leaving their mark while encouraging each other along the way.

I’m so glad I get to coordinate this project, and I cannot wait to see it all come together!

We’ll be celebrating the finished piece for International Dot Day and our school’s theme of Communication & Collaboration.
