May is World Mental Health month so enjoy a throwback from one of the most intense scenes of “Faith in the City.”
I wanted to highlight my own struggle with anxiety through the character of Stacie Fitzwater. My story is MUCH different than hers, but the panic attack scene of act 3 is practically a copy-paste of a real one that I experienced seven years ago…also in a restaurant. The scary feelings/sensations that came out of nowhere which Stacie describes were entirely real feelings/ sensations that I, myself dealt with in that moment.
While terrifying and something I would never in a billion years wish on anyone who hasn’t experienced something like it for themselves, I am grateful for experiences like this because some of the most painful ones make for amazing inspiration & I can use those to help others who have struggled/are struggling with the same things. Showcasing realistic struggles through characters/storytelling is something I strive for, always.
While mental health struggles are at an all-time high in this day & age, I am glad we live in a time where it’s not “taboo” to acknowledge them and therapy is not something that is viewed as, “a place where crazy people go.” Just as Stacie did
(spoiler), we ALL need to let go & give it ALL to Jesus! The Christian walk may not be struggle-free, but we sure have something sustainable to put our hope/trust in.
Shoutout to one of my dearest friends, Stormy Phillips, for saying “yes” to such a complex, challenging role for the first full run in December 2025. ❤️
