Time to Get Down: Jeff Beck Group performs one of its popular songs “Goin’ Down” on the Beat Club in 1972.

The Don Nix-penned song was recorded on the band’s fourth and final album, often referred to as the “Orange Album” because of a picture of the fruit prominently displayed on the album’s front cover.

In this video, Beck actually sings a few verses (not seen here), a rarity because Beck preferred to let his guitar handle that task after dismissing his lead vocals on the ‘60s “Hi-Ho Silver Lining”.

The album, produced by Memphis guitar great Steve Cropper, was the second disc recorded by Beck 2.0, which included drummer Cozy Powell, lead vocalist Bobby Tench, bassist Clive Chapman, and keyboardist Max Middleton.

The guitarist’s first lineup featured Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Nicky Hopkins, Aynsley Dunbar, and Micky Waller.

Music critics gave mixed reviews on the band’s final album. One rock critic hailed the album as “the boldest Beck guitar we’ve heard for a long time”, while another was impressed by Beck’s genius guitar skills but the songs were hampered by the rest of the band.

One of the best versions was Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughan’s explosive dual-guitar treatment of this blues-rock classic, performed as a finale during a U.S. tour in 1989. Check it out.

True Blues: Legendary blues artist B.B. King performs his hit signature song “Thrill is Gone” at A&R Studios in New York in October 1971.

“Thrill is Gone”, a slow 12-bar blues song, was written by Roy Hawkins and Rick Darnell 20 years earlier.

The song, which King recorded his version in 1969, reached high on the rock/pop and soul charts. It’s known for its polished production and use of strings, marking a departure from both the original song and King’s previous material.

The song also launched the career of producer Bill Szymczyk, who went on to produce major recording artists The Eagles, Joe Walsh, The Who, James Gang, and Elvin Bishop. ,

Unrehearsed and almost accidental — Vedder stepped in with the Stones at MusiCares 2022, and ‘Wild Horses’ hit different for a reason. It wasn’t just a duet; it was a tribute sung by an artist the band hand‑picked to honor their 60‑year legacy. Their voices locked in real time, turning a last‑minute addition into the moment everyone remembered.

NEWTON, NJ: Nestled in the bucolic hills of Sussex County, New Jersey, The Great Divide Campground hosted national touring act Steely Dead on Saturday (May 31), bringing a sonic fusion of precise and polished arrangements of Steely Dan and the Grateful Dead’s musical melting pot of improvisational sounds.

Steely Dead, performing its second night of its weekend appearance at the campground, cooked up an exquisite feast of Dan and Dead songs that fully satisfied fans’ musical appetites during the nearly four-hourlong set.

Denver-based Steely Dead is noted for seamlessly blending the works of the legendary bands, adding its own unique interpretation of songs that kept a multigenerational group of campers on the dance floor throughout the entire set.

The show featured the inimitable Steely Dead sound: a tight collaboration of Dave Abear’s blistering guitar solos, Matt Abear’s fat, walking basslines, Dylan Teifer’s symphonic kaleidoscope of sonic textures on keys, Chris Sheldon’s steady, hard-driving beat, and rich, soulful vocals.

One of the evening’s highlights was the band’s take on Steely Dan’s “Dirty Work”(watch video). This song appeared on the Dan’s 1972 masterpiece “Can’t Buy a Thrill”. For more videos of Steely Dead’s stunning performance, go to Muligo Stories on its Instagram page.

A special shoutout TGD owners Carmen and Lisa Torella for inviting us to become part of this memorable musical experience. The Steely Dead shows are among a series of the campground’s amazing musical acts performing in a barn equipped with state-of-the-art sound and lighting. Do yourself a big favor and check ‘em out. .
