acrylic + charcoal on board
In the spirit of “no act too small”this post is in collaboration with . A call to action and an open invitation to artists, creators and communities to take part, and to celebrate the cultures and identities that shape the fabric of our nation. Art matters.
“Weight a Minute” reflects the heavy burdens of the societal and systemic pressures on women. The fabric of her dress explores themes of balance, tension, and fragility, symbolized by precariously stacked colored shapes and a pale blue face teetering on the edge. The black-and-white grid-like background appears to invoke stability, but upon closer inspection, white duct tape pins down the female figure, whose neck is constricted, symbolizing censorship and oppression. The artist addresses the weight of the historical and ongoing struggles women face, encapsulating the constant pressure of a “weight a minute.”
