William Yu

William Yu Art and stuff I do. Most of that is true, except the wealthy part.

Heavily influenced by the the likes of Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, Frank Frazetta, Frank Miller, John Byrne, Jim Steranko, George Perez, Los Bros Hernandez, and an ever growing list of superbly talented comic-book artists along with more traditional artists like Alberto Giacommetti, Mogliani, Egon Schiele, Hundertwasser, Klimt, Van Gogh, Picasso, etc. William wanted to be a comic-book (we didn't hav

e graphic novels in them days) artist when he grew up but then his parents convinced him that he would live out his life in deprivation and poverty so he switched his major to engineering just before 5th grade and became fabulously wealthy. After getting the engineering degree and a job even, he went back to drawing and painting for fun (and because he worked at university he could enroll in the painting courses for free!). Earning about two years worth of painting training, William embarked on a long journey that led him to Boulder, CO where he continues to work at the craft of drawing by hitting the life drawing sessions two times (six hours) a week and holing up in coffee shops whenever his busy schedule allows to work on his sketchbooks and landscapes.

My annual Trident show is up! Life drawings of course. Mostly done in the last 8 years. It took longer to cull them down for public consumption than to hang them.

Experiments in my sketchbook mostly end poorly but sometimes things work out and I learn something new. And sometimes it becomes something that I like to look at again and again. That's all I can hope for. I made this from memory and imagination.

Some thumbnail sketches from one of my trips to Boston last year. I'll be teaching an urban sketching class again this spring with the Louisville Art Association. Hopefully my arm will be working again after shoulder surgery.
