Reporting live from inside the choir — a little BTS preview from the Bach! 🕵️

In this movement of Jesu, meine Freude, we hear our two gorgeous soprano soloist voices ring out over the altos. The text may sound sweet at first — after all, ‘gute nacht’ often is. But here, Bach turns it around and adds a little sarcasm and force to the phrase. He renounces sin, saying ‘Good night, sins, stay far away, never again come to light!’

To hear this piece in its entirety, please join us tonight in Denver! 7:30 pm at St Thomas Episcopal Church. See you there!

Linda, Jerimiah, and Gaby putting the finishing touches on one of the pieces that’ll be featured in this weekend’s production of Bach and Beyond. Wow!

The final week of rehearsals is such an exciting one — we finally get to hear all the many pieces come together, and the energy in the choir is unbeatable. We hope you’ll come and enjoy the fruits of our labor this weekend!

Introducing another guest artist for this weekend’s performances of Bach and Beyond, theorbist Joseph Gailey!

Joe’s musical journey began in unexpected places. Initially drawn to rock ’n’ roll as a young guitarist, his path took a decisive turn at fifteen when he discovered classical guitar. That year, he began his professional studies with Joseph Pecoraro at the North Carolina School of the Arts and later pursued a degree in music performance at Appalachian State University and The University of Texas at Austin under Adam Holzman making him a second generation student of Andres Segovia.

At Appalachian State, Joe was first introduced to the theorbo, an encounter that led to his participation in the Collegium Musicum ensemble in Boone, NC, where he performed works by Baroque composers such as Telemann, Lully, and Bach. Self-taught on theorbo, lute, and Baroque guitar, he approaches performance with a deep interdisciplinary perspective, drawing on historical studies in literature, philosophy, and the cultural forces that shaped the music of past centuries.

Joe will be especially busy because he’ll also be singing with Seicento and Seicento Sirene for these performances. Bravo!

Introducing our next guest artist for Bach and Beyond, gambist Ann Marie Morgan!

We’d like to introduce the collaborating artists that will be featured in next weekend’s performances of Bach and Beyond. Starting off strong with someone that we in Seicento know and love — our very own Jerimiah Otto!

Jerimiah is a brilliant musician and we’re lucky enough to have both his artistry and his cheer during our rehearsals each week. He is a frequent collaborator in our Seicento performances and has played continuo for our previous productions of Johannespassion and Judas Maccabeus.

Jerimiah holds a BM degree in Piano Performance and a MM degree in Harpsichord Performance from CU Boulder. He recently performed in concerts at the church of Saint-Julien-du-Sault, France on harpsichord and on the historic 1568 Renaissance organ as part of the Les Épopeés early music festival. In 2023, Jerimiah performed at L’Échappée Estivale early music festival in Cluny, France. Voilà!
