It’s a little surreal to see the many pieces of what I do woven together so thoughtfully in today’s Brookline.News.

The article starts in Venice, where my work is currently part of a satellite exhibition of the Venice Biennale, but what I loved most is that it traces that work all the way back to Brookline — to the kids whose instinctive use of color inspires me, to the community that has grown around our space, and even further back, to the teenager who immigrated here at 13 and found refuge in art.

I talked about why I never wanted to teach children through templates. Why plein-air painting matters. Why learning to trust your own intuition matters. And how a gallery I originally imagined as a traditional exhibition space somehow grew into this much bigger creativity hub of classes, exhibitions, conversations, dinners, music and community.

One line from the interview keeps coming back to me:

“I give people tools and fill their toolbox with different materials and techniques, but then it’s really up to them what they want to do with it.”

That may be the simplest explanation of what I’ve been trying to build all along.

And somehow a little piece of it is now floating in the Venetian lagoon.

Very grateful to Nina Gilbert and Brookline.News for telling the whole story.

Why combine an art gallery and an art school?
This was a question the journalist kept asking about this little experiment we have in Coolidge Corner!

Thrilled to share that my piece for this much anticipated exhibition has passed customs (which wasn’t trivial for my last Italian museum show), and will be installed in the next few days!

Back this week with news of our new summer show and my painting trip to the French Riviera, Provence, and Iceland!

If you—or someone you know—has treasured memories from these places, this is the perfect time to get in touch. I’ll be taking on a limited number of watercolor and oil commissions of all sizes while I’m traveling, bringing home fresh inspiration for one-of-a-kind legacy paintings.
