Scenes from our Mexico visit…we paid homage to Frida Kahlo’s home, Casa Azul. Note her kitchen and bed and wheelchair at her easel. Here are moments from Diego Rivera’s mural, “Man, Controller of the Universe.” Diego originally painted this in Rockefeller Center, NYC, commissioned by Nelson Rockefeller who was upset that Diego painted the father of communism, Lenin, in the mural and demanded Rivera paint over him. Rivera refused, so Rockefeller (painted in a sickly pea green color, as were many of the elites), destroyed Rivera’s mural. Rivera re-painted the whole thing in Mexico City. Note that flag…
Also, Teotihuacan. Wow oh wow. What a transcendent place on earth. I feel changed by my visit.

I’ve returned from renewed by my experience. I was invited to in Mexico City to speak and sing. I didn’t know if I could manage an appearance as I’ve been in deep grief for my mom. My heart told me to go and I’m so glad I did. This is a little window, my high school Spanish coming in handy. As an invited guest and an American, I felt an apology was warranted. I will send more photos, thoughts and revelations from my trip soon. I loved the people, the culture, the history, the spirit connection, the food, the ease. Thank you to everyone who made this trip so loving and fulfilling. 🙏❤️

Not just for the pollinators…

But baby birds and bunnies too.
So many creatures use the long brush to hide and stay safe while fledging and growing to maturity.

Reframe your idea of a “perfect lawn.”

Let nature be - it’s wisdom we humans need to embrace now.

Leave grass in May, let Fall leaves mulch in Spring, allow “dead” trees to feed wildlife. Leave grass dunes to prevent erosion. Foster meadows for insects and endangered monarch butterflies. Be part of ecology.

“I make things out of stuff,” she’d say when people asked what kind of art she made.
A Silent-generation child raised by parents who knew the Great Depression, it was anathema to overly express. But in her work, feelings animated. The darkness, the passion, the mundane, the secrets, the strong opinions, came to life. She embraced spectacular color not until her 70’s. The older she became, the bolder she grew. In her newer pieces, there is little restraint. She was the living example for me – a mother, an artist, an iconoclast perpetually evolving in her work. Mom was fascinating. An enigma. I am still looking to her brilliant art to better know her secrets and feelings.

My daughter Sky is launching a fundraising campaign for “Felicity”, her first short film post-graduation from NYU/Tisch.
This is a tender story (somewhat) based on her personal experience at sleep-away camp.

She often writes for the dignity of adolescents, a wise perspective our world needs.
I believe she’ll have a long life in film and I’m grateful for your interest in her journey.
Sky is a beautiful human and storyteller presently working on original screenplays and pre-production for “Felicity.”
