People often ask me what my abstract paintings mean. The truth is, I don’t usually start with a story. I start with color, shape, line, and movement, and I let the painting tell me where it wants to go. If you see something in it, that’s wonderful. If you don’t, that’s okay too. You don’t have to solve it. Sometimes a painting is simply about the experience of color, energy, and emotion. I hope you’ll just spend a little time with it and let it speak to you in your own way.

Not to sound trite and corny… but the song “Sailing” by Rod Stewart played in my head while painting this…. a beautiful song about mankind’s spiritual journey through life, freedom and fulfilment. I love it. One of my favorite uplifting songs.

“A Place in Rockland Maine”

The last time I was in Rockland, Maine was in 2017 with my dad. We sat together by the harbor, and I still have a photo of him in his little folding chair, smoking his cigar. I’m grateful that I have the photo of that moment.

When I was in Rockland last week with Stephen, his brother, and his sister‑in‑law, we walked around the harbor. I showed them the picture of my dad sitting there, and they brought me to the exact spot where he and I had sat. It was a little sad but also deeply meaningful.

This painting was inspired by the beauty of Rockland, the simplicity of the town, and the peacefulness of the water, especially in the early morning hours. It is a place in Rockland, Maine where a beautiful memory lives.

“Belfast, Maine” June 39, 2026 Acrylic 16x20

Good morning. I really liked Belfast, Maine. It wasn’t crowded when we were there, and it had this quiet, small‑town feeling that reminded me of being a kid. Diners and old fashion toy stores and sweet gifts shops. Something about it felt safe and uncomplicated, old school, just simple charm everywhere you looked. It was absent of all the hectic mess back home that’s starting to truly grate on my nerves.

Some of the things I loved most about Maine were the nights when the sky went completely black and the stars were scattered across it. There are certain towns in Massachusetts where you can still see a dark sky and the stars, but where I live there’s a lot of light pollution, so you don’t see nearly as many. That’s why, when I’m somewhere with a really black sky and the stars spread out above me, I get completely lost in it. It reminds me how beautiful the night sky really is. -Simplicity, and authentic beauty; that’s what I wanted to achieve while working on this painting.

I had never been to Camden, Maine before or at least I can’t remember ever being there, but it was absolutely beautiful. Camden is a coastal town right on Penobscot Bay, and it has that perfect mix of harbor life, small town charm, and dramatic scenery. We spent a lot of time down by the harbor and in art galleries, and the whole place felt inspiring.

Announcement for the Clemens Gallery Show

I’m having a show at the Clemens Gallery inside the Hingham Public Library, 66 Leavitt Street in Hingham. Thanks to Barry who took charge and hung the show. Thank you Barry!

The paintings will be hanging from May 1 through May 29, right at the entrance of the library. I’ve been working on this group of pieces since November, and they’re displayed in front of a large bank of windows, so the sunlight really brings the colors to life.

All paintings are for sale. Purchase at gallery.

Library Hours

• Monday–Thursday: 10 a.m.–9 p.m.
• Friday: Closed
• Saturday: 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
• Sunday: 1 p.m.–5 p.m.

What is your favorite spring memory?

“I Will” — March 11, 2026

This time of year always makes me anticipate my favorite holiday: Easter. Even as a kid, Easter meant so much to me. My Aunt Florence would leave these huge Easter baskets in front of the fireplace for us to find in the morning, and it felt magical every single time.

I’ve always loved Easter lilies—the promise of new beginnings, the first blooms on the trees, the feeling that something fresh and hopeful is just starting to unfold. This painting comes from that place… stepping into a new season, a new light, a new beginning.
