For someone who writes a lot about impermanence, I made a rather permanent decision on Saturday… I got married.💌💍
I simply cannot distill the tea 🫖 about how we got here & how the day went into an Instagram caption. So follow my Substack for that future post…. But one question I keep getting is, “How does it feel now that you’re finally married?”
And my answer is—well—I don’t feel much different. But I’m not underwhelmed by that; not in the slightest.
See, in my private vows, I talked a lot about the tiny, “mundane” moments: Weaving through shopping carts for a Costco hotdog, taking turns blow-drying our dog after a bath, or wondering if we can steal each other’s last Celsius without the other noticing.
Marriage might not necessarily be built on moments like these. But it is (if I had to guess) probably kept alive by them. And I think that’s why being married hasn’t felt like such a dramatic shift. Because if those are the moments that sustain a marriage, then in that specific way, I feel like I’ve been married for years already.
So ya, maybe I feel just “the same.” Not much has changed (except his last name💸). And I’m not underwhelmed, but perfectly whelmed—I couldn’t be happier about all of it.
And that’s the nutshell: we’ve always just been “us.” Same old book, new chapter.📚 Now legally bound & tied with a ribbon;)🎀
