June 10th is personal for me 🌍🎷
I built Travel Through Music because I believe music is the most powerful way to connect people across cultures. Sonic Passports is that belief brought to life and this year we are bringing the Caribbean to the Hatch Shell for FREE 🌴🥁
I will also be on that stage performing, bringing Trinidad and Tobago with me 🇹🇹🔥 calypso classics, soca, jazz, and some newer tunes because… wink wink… I cyah behave meh self 😂
but honestly? this night is bigger than me
it is for every Caribbean person in Boston who deserves to see their culture celebrated on one of the most iconic stages in the city, it is for every family bringing their kids to Kiddies Corner at 5:30, it is for everyone who has never experienced Caribbean music live and is about to have their whole world opened up 🙌🏾

Groundbeat Concert Series | Sonic Passports returns to the iconic DCR Hatch Memorial Shell on Wednesday, June 10th and it’s FREE, family-friendly, and full of culture 🙌🏾

🧒🏽✨ Kiddies Corner kicks off at 5:30PM with the infectious energy of — live coloring activations, a dance floor bumping with Caribbean rhythms, and all the vibes to get the little ones moving before the sun goes down! Then at 6PM, the stage comes alive 🔥
: an East Coast collective repping the Caribbean diaspora with deep roots and serious pride 🇻🇨🇱🇨🇧🇧 Vincy, Lucian, and Bajan flavors blending into one irresistible sound : reggae, culture, community. Round, vibrant, full of life, just like the place that inspired it.
Let us tell you about The Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain’s crown jewel and the heartbeat of the city. 💚
Known locally as simply “the Savannah,” this glorious 260-acre park has a perimeter of about 3.5 km and its surrounding one-way ring road is famously known as the world’s largest roundabout. 🚗💨 That’s right. The whole thing goes around. And around. And around. In the most joyful, chaotic, Trinidadian way possible.
Originally part of the Paradise Estate, it was bought in 1817 and turned into a city park, becoming the oldest recreation ground in the West Indies. 🌳 Once part of a sugar plantation and formerly home to a racecourse, it is now the epicenter of the annual Carnival where magic happens every single year.
During Carnival season the Savannah transforms into something else entirely. 🔥 Vendors line every corner selling handcrafted goods just like this bag, local food, coconut water, snow cones. Chaotic and beautiful and completely, utterly alive. The circle of this bag? That’s our love letter to the Savannah. A nod to its shape, its energy, its roundness that just keeps going like a Carnival that never wants to end. And those colors? Bold, rich, African print inspired, because the culture that fills that Savannah is just as vivid and layered as every thread in this bag.
And because no box and no trip to the Savannah is complete without a little FIRE 🔥… we had to include Matouk’s Pepper Sauce.
Pepper sauce in Trinidad isn’t just a condiment. It’s a legacy. Every family has their own recipe passed down through generations and it’s added to pretty much everything. A beautiful fusion of Scotch bonnet peppers of African origin with mustard seeds, turmeric, and cumin from India , a condiment unlike anything found in either parent culture alone. 🌶️ And Matouk’s? It’s THE one. Iconic. Beloved. Non-negotiable at any Trini table. 🇹🇹

Look at this beauty. 🌿🐚✨
When curating this quarter’s box, we wanted to honor not just the culture of Trinidad and Tobago but the stunning waters that surround it. Because these two islands don’t just sit in the Caribbean. They sit at one of the most extraordinary marine crossroads on the planet.
Trinidad’s north coast borders the Caribbean Sea while its east coast meets the Atlantic Ocean and at the northeastern tip of the island, in a place called Toco, you can actually stand at the point where both bodies of water meet. 🤯 Two oceans. One shore. That’s Trinidad.
Add to that the Gulf of Paria, the Columbus Channel, and the powerful currents from two of the world’s greatest rivers : the Amazon and the Orinoco ,flowing into the surrounding waters, and you have one of the most ecologically rich and complex marine environments anywhere on Earth.
And beneath those waters? Something ancient and extraordinary. Off the northeast coast of Tobago, near the island of Little Tobago, sits one of the largest boulder brain corals in the entire Western Hemisphere : an estimated five metres across and three metres high. 🧠🪸 Growing at just one centimetre per year, this coral has been building itself for over 200 years quietly thriving while empires rose and fell, while music was born and spread across the world. There’s something humbling about that.
Coral reefs surround much of Tobago, and five species of sea turtle navigate these waters including the leatherback, one of the oldest creatures on Earth. 🐢
The woven bag, the shells, the stones, the pearls in this box , all of it was chosen to echo those waters. The texture of the ocean floor. The color of sea glass. The quiet magic of what lives beneath the surface. 🌺🐚 And the jewelry? Each piece was thoughtfully chosen to honor the waves themselves : the warm, turquoise roll of the Caribbean Sea and the deep, powerful surge of the Atlantic Ocean. Two very different energies. Both breathtaking. Both Trinidad and Tobago. 💙🌊
Trinidad and Tobago is a feast for the ears. But for the eyes? It’s just as breathtaking. 🌊✨
