The final day of our seminar went great! We added gold leaf to our stamens and around the inner rim of the vase. We also added more shadows and darkened the bottom of the vase, and added any other details we wanted to add or enhance. What a wonderful experience. Thank you to for leading our seminar and hosting us, and for all her help and kindness!

Day two of our seminar started by painting our roses with resist before we went out to pick some leaves from rosebushes outside the studio. We painting the backs of the leaves and pressed them to our pieces to leave behind amazing prints of the veins and spines of the leaves! Such beautiful details! We added some yellow to our flower centers and some additional color to the rest of the piece, staying away from our wet leaf prints!

Our spring seminar is underway! Yesterday was our first of four days and we got started with some under layers of brown, pecan yellow brown, tan, orchid, and pink purple. We also added a little luster to the inner rim to prepare for using gold leaf as a final step. Today we’ve transferred flowers using acetone to transfer printer toner, and now we’re resisting our flowers before we press real leaves covered in paint to give us some lovely veining.

We had our January member meeting today and talked a bit about luster, our plans for this year’s seminar in April, and general business. We also got to see this beautiful tile painted with iris that our member, friend, and wonderful teacher Stephanie Laufenburger painted for a seminar she taught in Portland, OR this last fall. So wonderful!
