Guppies are peaceful and easygoing, which makes stocking a community tank pretty fun. A few of our favorite pairings:

Corydoras catfish — bottom cleanup crew, totally chill
Neon or ember tetras — similar temperament, adds color contrast
Nerite snails — algae control without bothering anyone
Amano shrimp — great cleanup crew, mostly guppy-safe once adult

Avoid fin-nippers like tiger barbs or anything large enough to see a guppy as a snack. Their flowing tails are basically a target if paired wrong.

Here's our go-to process before any new arrival joins the main tanks:

2–4 week quarantine in a bare, easy-to-clean tank
Watch closely for ich, fin rot, or unusual behavior in the first week
Keep params stable — no big swings while they settle in
Feed lightly and observe appetite as a health check

It feels like extra work, but one sick fish in your main tank can undo months of careful stocking. Trust us, we learned this one the hard way early on.

Betta Care Myths We Need to Retire 🚫🐠

"Bettas are fine in a bowl" — nope, they need at least 5 gallons, filtered and heated.

"They don't need a heater" — bettas are tropical fish; anything under 76°F stresses them out.

"They can't have tank mates" — many bettas do fine with peaceful, calm community fish in a large enough tank, depending on the individual fish's temperament.

We've bred and kept bettas for years, and the fish that thrive are always the ones with stable, warm water and a little room to explore.

Endler's Livebearer 101: Water Parameters 🐟

Endler's are tough little fish, but they thrive when their water is dialed in. Here's what we keep in our own breeding tanks:

Temperature: 72–78°F

pH: 7.0–8.0 (they actually prefer it on the harder, more alkaline side)

Ammonia/Nitrite: 0 ppm, always
Nitrate: under 20 ppm

The biggest mistake we see? Softening the water too much trying to "help" them. Endler's actually do best a little on the hard side — closer to their wild Venezuelan habitat.
