For the 10th anniversary of Bloomington's gallery walk, Remote Projects is pleased to announce The Cruise, featuring photographs and paintings by Christopher Stanton and Justin Clifford Rhody at the Blueline gallery.
The Cruise explores ideas of travel, sincerity, and the "good life" in ways that are both subversive and matter-of-fact.
Chris Stanton is a self-taught artist with an educational background in screenwriting and creative writing. He loves fish tacos, Christmas and the 1987 cinematic classic "North Shore." He recently had his first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, and is writing a novel about the surf scene on Lake Michigan. Stanton is inspired by the work of Lucian Freud, Trina Schart Hyman and David Hockney, as well as design, pop culture and video games from the late 1970s and early 80s.
Born in Flint Michigan, Justin Clifford Rhody is a self-taught photographer working with 35mm color film. His work is based upon recording the phenomena of everyday life and by critical observation of the world around him. His photographs have been exhibited throughout the United States and he has also traveled extensively presenting his work via slide projector in unconventional settings (such as warehouses, living rooms and backyards.) His first printed collection of photographs, "Sliding Glass Door", was published in the summer of 2012 by Bathetic Records. He currently lives in Oakland California and is at work editing a collection of photographs created during extended visits to Central America over the past 4 years. In addition, he is concurrently editing an omnibus of his electrophotographic works, as well as producing a large body of photographs focusing on the South Western United States.
