The MFA show is open at the Grunwald. Our MFA is showing off some amazing work! His work is about balancing and living with the contradictions of life. He explores these contradictions through anthropomorphism, reflecting the human tendency to project ourselves onto animals throughout history.
The MFA show opened April 7th and will be open through April 18th. The MFA talks are April 10th from 4:30-6pm with a reception from 6-8pm.

Sending some love to one more graduating ceramics BFA, all the way in NYC!
Meghan Stanley is a senior Ceramics BFA candidate. During her BFA, she has a strong foundation in ceramic techniques while also exploring mixed media, working with materials such as silicone, metal, and fabric. Offered the opportunity to study in New York City, she is now completing her B.F.A. through IU in NYC, and her upcoming thesis show will be held in Brooklyn, NY, on December 12th.

Working in a range from small to life-sized, she uses clay as a means to understand her body and to balance texture and form while processing memory. Much of her recent work responds to personal trauma and examines how experiences from girlhood to womanhood affect the physical body. She incorporates elements of body horror—distorted shapes, skin-like surfaces, and biomorphic forms—to emphasize these processes, creating sculptures that serve as visual documentation and reflection.

Very proud to introduce our new Visitng Professor, Ellen Kleckner ! A little bit more about Ellen:

Ellen Kleckner is an artist and educator who maintains a research-driven studio practice integrating community engagement, material investigation, and collaborative making. Her work explores the convergence of ceramics with wood, steel, and fiber through joinery systems that emphasize tension, mutual reliance, balance, and the desire for connection.
Deeply engaged with the field of craft, Kleckner’s work bridges traditions of making with contemporary approaches to collaboration and material inquiry. She contributes to sustaining and advancing craft through teaching, community-building, and arts leadership.
Kleckner studied ceramics at the Appalachian Center for Craft (BFA) and Ohio University (MFA). She is currently a Visiting Professor of Art at Indiana University, Bloomington. From 2016–2025, she served as Executive Director of the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio, leading significant program growth and major facility initiatives.
Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at KVALITRA Gallery, Arrowmont School of Craft, the Baltimore Jewelry Center, Northern Clay Center, Mezinarodni Muzeum Keramiky, and the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. Her recent support includes awards and fellowships from the McKnight Foundation, the Iowa Arts Council, and the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, as well as a visiting artist residency at the Archie Bray Foundation.

We are so excited to have Ellen join us!!! Welcome Ellen!

Introducing graduating BF, Olivia Trevino!

Olivia Trevino is a ceramicist living in Bloomington, Indiana pursuing a BFA in Ceramics and a BA in Journalism at Indiana University. Her practice centers on building large-scale, functional furniture forms that explore themes of grief, loss, and human connection. Through her work, she aims to create spaces for reflection and conversation, using clay as both a structural and emotional material.
She is particularly interested in the challenge of functionality within large works—playing the limits of scale and structure to see how clay can support both physical and emotional weight. Each piece begins with an interior clay framework designed to support the whole form, mirroring the systems we all rely on to hold ourselves together.
Throughout her BFA, she has experimented with various techniques, but her current focus lies in the technical and conceptual exploration of these expansive forms. Outside the studio, she enjoys spending time in nature, reading, and hanging out with her cats. After completing her studies, she plans to return to Indianapolis to continue working in the arts and further develop her creative practice.

We are so excited to see Olivia’s BFA show at the end of the semester. Keep up with IU Ceramics to see her progress!

Artist Statement: Driven by narrative, my work explores the politics of the ubiquitous and mundane. These objects within everyday encounters spark not just a story, but heed warning of cautionary tales. In my work I am intrigued by the fluid boundaries between Mexican folklore, Southern traditions, and their complex relationship to craft. The vessels within my work provide function, but often incorporate sculptural elements that tell another story of play and consequence. Within my work, figurative elements combine with altar-like structures to create monuments to my past and our collective future.
Welcome Max!
