So how did I do it??
1. Psychological set up: using psychology to make you booth opening and keep customers buying.
I either set up in a z formation or have tables on either side and me at the end. Each time I am slightly hidden by a higher table layer. This allows customers to feel less watched and more comfortable. I always buy a table slightly out of my booth to allow customers to be up and close with items before deciding to come in. Usually this results in more customer deciding to follow the table layout inside my booth. If I can, I also like to crochet at my booth to look less intimidating and show that I make everything. Of course, you should still be interacting with customers!
I also set my plushies up in groups of similarity as humans tend to gravitate towards items that they like. This way, it is less overwhelming and customers can easily decide which , for example, color axolotl they want.
2. Affordable items: while most of my items are in the $20 range, I try to make items $6 or under. This is imperative for quick purchases from people who love your booth but are not looking to spend a lot. Also perfect for kids! For smaller I use bubble blobs which are $6 or 2-for-$10 (find the pattern in my link in bio). And I do popping pickles/fish for $4. You can also do small quick keychains!
3. Variety: the products you choose to make are very important and correlate strongly to the event you are at. For example, I made much more axolotls at a family friendly event and more higher priced detailed items for the Lunar Faire.
You should try to have small items $6 or less, if you manly make higher priced items. This allows customers to support you if they can’t spend.
Try to make something for everyone, take suggestions and listen to what people want. It is better to make lots of different critters than 10 lobsters!
4. Clear pricing: let me say it flat out….customers WILL LEAVE if they cannot easily see the pricing for each item. Ditch the confusing price list and start tagging your items individually or keeping them near a price sign they align with.
5. Interactive displays: get creative with tall displays, spinning keychains, adorable animal signs e
