Starting next month, we have staff singer vacancies for:
SOPRANO 1
TENOR (1 or 2)
BARITONE or BASS
Additionally, we have created a new CHORISTER VOCAL COACH position to further strengthen our Royal School of Church Music-based choir for ages 8-18. This role would entail working vocally with our young singers individually and in small groups on areas ranging from beginning technique to solos. Time frame is 2-3 Sundays a month during the academic year from 11:45 am to 1:15/1:30 pm. The ideal candidate with have a passion for and experience in working with young people in our age range.
For staff singers, regular time commitment includes a Wednesday night rehearsal (7:15 - 9:15) and Sunday morning (8:45 - 11:15ish) each week. Once a month, a big choral evening service, like Evensong or Lessons & Carols, is sung late afternoon on Sunday. Mandatory calls are Holy Week, Easter Sunday, and Christmas Eve, and the rehearsals prior.
A strong choral background, superb sight reading skills, and an enjoyment of singing in a healthy, non vibrato choral sound are essential. Additional opportunities to sing as a cantor/soloist are available depending on interest in the summer, the weekly Saturday night service, and for weddings and funerals.
The Christ Church Cranbrook Choir is an all-auditioned SATB choir that strives for the highest level of excellence. Although 14 of the approximately 32 singers are staff singers, all hold themselves to a professional standard. Repertoire is rooted in the Anglican cathedral choral tradition, regularly includes all eras and multiple styles, and can include advanced, challenging pieces. Several times a year, the Choir is joined by orchestra or brass and timpani. Upcoming big rep includes the Mozart Requiem, Vivaldi Gloria, and half of the Nikolaimesse by Haydn with orchestra. It’s a really great group!
