Here's a closer look at the pottery from Kelsey Schissel that we showcased yesterday!

Kelsey is inspired by life, spring cherry blossoms, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, and she's been making her pottery in the area her whole life. The time spent with her craft has clearly been fruitful as exemplified by her work.

We are proud to carry refined and elegant work like hers, so visit us in Downtown Black Mountain or online by following the link in the photo to see for yourself!

Yesterday, we introduced you to Sandie Reed's stunning jewelry, so it seems right to take a closer look today!

What do you think of her metalwork? We sure are astounded, which is why we're so thrilled to carry her work to share with you all. If any piece stands out to you, you can click the link in the image to be taken directly to the product in our shop!

The natural imagery sticks out to us, which makes sense, considering she draws inspiration from North Carolina's more natural settings.

Bark baskets are another craft with a long history of practice!

These baskets have been made by artisans for over 11,000 years and are one of the oldest and most culturally significant basketry practices in North America. These were initially crafted for utilitarian reasons, but over time, this practice has become more about the art. To have such tradition become aesthetically pleasing decor is part of the beauty of craft!

The bark baskets are one way you can bring a woodsy feel into your home, so follow the link in the photo to explore these pieces and many more on the site.

They're gourds... but they're art?

Did you catch any of these gourds in our reel from yesterday? This craft adds such a unique flair to any space.

This craft has been in practice since the Neolithic period, originally made as containers for water, seeds, or food. The long tradition of gourd art has produced refined and masterful creators in this craft!

Happy (continued) Raku week!

Since raku and saggar glazes have such broad applications, we figured you won't want to miss the horsehair approach!

During cooling, a horse's hair is applied to the pottery, instantly incinerating. A burn scar is left behind, creating a unique and natural effect on the surface.

The link in the photo will take you directly to the product on our website, so feel free to check them out there.

How special are these glazes?

06/06/2026

Have you heard of saggar glazes before?

This is a technical process involving hot pottery, combustible materials with colorful properties, and a lack of oxygen.

How cool is it that these colors come forward unexpectedly? The potter doesn’t always know what the finish will look like, so it adds a layer of serendipity to the art!

As always, check our website at MtnNest.com or come see us in downtown Black Mountain to see our wide range of pottery!

There’s much more to see and learn!
