Design problem or mistake?
I can fix that! This client put in beautiful new hickory floors. The problem was her quality yellow oak cabinets didn’t work with the brown red tones of the hickory. She contemplated tearing out her new floors, but we came up with a beautiful glazed finish for her cabinets that married the backsplash, countertop, and floors and cabinets together.
The client is ecstatic!
How do you update to keep up with design trends?
Granite countertops and white cabinets are out.
Paste, or Pasta tiles are ubiquitous in Merida, Mexico. Their beautiful colors and simple to intricate patterns are used everywhere (it seems). Some of them are a 100 years old! I fell in love with them! On my next trip to Merida, I want to visit a pasta tile factory, but here’s a general process—
Marble dust, Portland cement, and natural pigments, and a metal mold are used to make the tiles. Then they are pressed (hydraulic pressure) and dried to cure. No firing. Each tile is handmade. After sealing, waxing, and buffing after installation, they have a silky smooth feel and a low matte sheen.
They are also known as encaustic cement tiles, Moroccan tiles, hydraulic tiles...
Mi encanta!❣️ How about you?
Since 2012, I have spent winters in Cozumel volunteering with my husband at the orphanage. Art Sessions, murals, welding security grilles, welding beds for the kids....
This year is our first winter there as Art Power! -the non-profit we formed to be able to go outside the orphanage and reach more of the community and the kids of Cozumel.
We are on a mission to improve the lives of underserved kids through the transformative power of art!
Art builds self esteem, and confidence. Art creates better learners. Art reduces stress, and relaxes. Art increases feelings of love and acceptance.
Here is your opportunity to make these things happen!

It’s December and red is clearly all around and on my mind. BM Caliente—Ben Moore’s Color of the Year. Christmas Red. Poinsettia Red. Barn Red.
Back when the the weather was warm and the snow was not on anyone’s mind, I was invited to work on this barn project with Brenda Hart of Studio Hart. I’m not kidding, we painted this barn scene in a barn! Brenda worked her magic with the animals and interior scenes and I painted the faux barn wood.
As a professional decorative painter who is constantly in “creative” mode, I often have to renew my sense of curiosity and inspiration. I take art classes that are not related to decorative painting; mediation, collage, cooking, and glass blowing are some of the classes I have taken.
In September I took off for North Carolina with my sister for a long weekend of art. Here are pictures from my 2 day glass blowing class. (My first one was a 2 hour glass blowing experience in Santa Fe) My favorite project is the blue opaque drinking glass.
Now that I’m renewed and inspired, what can I create for you?
Caliente! What a perfect name and color for a spicy "new" kitchen! Ben Moore's Color of the Year 2018 is Caliente AF 290.
Here is a kitchen that we painted with a spicy red and a dark glaze for depth, the color could be Caliente. I love a spicy hot red kitchen, would you?
I'm a color girl, I'm so happy to see rich saturated colors coming back strong! Benjamin Moore's Color of the Year is Caliente AF 290, described as "Strong Radiant and Full of Energy!"
I say it's about time! What do you say about Caliente?

Sherwin Williams Color of the Year 2018 Oceanside 6496.
Here it is in action! This is an old door I redid for The Berthoud Inn for their Santa Fe Room. The door already had a beautiful authentic chipped paint finish, but the colors of pink and mint green were all wrong for the room theme. I used 2 rich blue-green colors that are so similar to the SW color, let some of the original paint and chipping show through, toned it with a glaze and now we have a new antique door headboard that fits perfectly into the Santa Fe Room.
Do you have a piece of furniture that is ALMOST perfect for your vision?
Contact me, I can solve that problem for you. :-)
This vibrant scene caught my eye.
Sherwin Williams has released their 2018 color of the year. I love this color, could you?
In the early 1990's after I graduated from art school, I lived in a shotgun style home in the historic Mount Adams neighborhood in Cincinnati. The apartment had tall ceilings, wood floors, and killer views out onto the Ohio River and downtown. I painted the walls in a rich teal jewel tone very similar to Oceanside SW 6496, and semi-gloss white trim finished out the crisp look. I loved that space.
How would YOU use this color your home?

Where do you want to be reminded of when you walk through your door? Setting the tone for a beautiful craft and work space with a beautiful old door "found at an antique market in the south of France". That's our story anyway; the door is brand new, custom made for my client who longed to create a studio that reminded her of her trips to the French countryside.
The new headboard for the Santa Fe room at the bed and breakfast. I like the finish so much, I'm using it in my home.
What place could we paint for you that tugs at your heart and would make you feel joy and happiness at home?
My beautiful starting point to create a Santa Fe style headboard for a bed and breakfast. 🙂. Let's see what develops!
Our work home for the next 3 weeks. We are making red brick (at the top of the wall) disappear with organic lime plasters to mimic the natural lime leeching.
