Join fellow community members in the month long co-creation of dioramas. The small gallery space will become filled with story, stories in boxes (and beyond). . .

Have you ever walked into a room in a museum space or historical center that was filled with dioramas that set your imagination soaring?

Well! Now, you too have the opportunity to participate in the creation of wondrous displays for visitors. Become the builder, curator and storyteller alongside fellow community members in a collaborative display, a gallery of stories, scenes, moments captured.

What story do you want to tell?

What scene do you want to build?

This is collective experimental scenography.

(Puppets might show up)

Guided by puppeteer and artist Risa Lenore, we will collectively build scenes and their accompanying stories to share with the public.

This is a month-long, all-ages community project.

SEPTEMBER 2 - OCTOBER 4

Tuesday 6:30-10pm (Adults only)

Wednesdays 2-5pm

Saturdays 12-5pm

Final showcase: Saturday October 4th 4-6 pm

A rollicking collection of four interconnected short stories told (mostly non-verbally) with multi-style puppets; paper puppets, tabletop puppets, mask, marionette and live acting and music.
This family show is best suited for ages 5 and up and adults without children are highly encouraged to attend!

Join us for a community art workshop! Make rod puppets with professional puppeteer and educator Risa Lenore. Using a basic sculpting technique, hot glue and fun accessories, each participant will build a character from their imagination. You will take home your creation at the end of the workshop and you too can become a puppeteer! Come Early for the DEMO and have ample time to create! This family activity is best for ages 8 and up.

Journey with Risa Lenore as they present a brand new non-verbal family friendly handmade puppet tale full of excitement, worry, joy and strange events. The Whistler, made of milk jugs and paper pages, embarks on unexpected adventures in search of his dog Twinka. For ages 7 and older.

YOU TOO CAN USE STORIES TO CHANGE OUR WORLD! The concept that we as educators and parents can proactively work to raise anti-racist children offers hope! Perhaps if we do a better job for this generation: the violence against people of color can someday end,- and going even further; we can all THRIVE together, stronger!

The resources people have been sharing help us to grow, work, learn and ultimately change!

Our job as parents and teachers is to also be aware of what media- books, movies, music, art - our children are absorbing and to think about what messages the children are getting- Among other things: We need to ask ourselves: are they consuming media with mostly white characters who have the agency/ as the heroes/ sheroes?

Many of the stories and media we adults pass down from our own childhoods have intrinsic bias-( when I hunt for stories at used book stores- the biases are blaring) How do we still love those stories and have discussions about them- and supplement (or supplant) them with new beloved tales? There is so much available now to round out our childrens' upbringing.

FOR YOUNG CHILDREN, REPRESENTATION MATTERS! STORIES MATTER! choose wisely.
