✨ Welcome Back to Dwight-Englewood School + Open House October 25 ✨

🍁 Fall is off to a great start at Dwight-Englewood! Head of School Dr. James Calleroz White says having students back "always fills me with joy," and that excitement is felt across campus.

🎨 Art & Design teacher Donwan Harrell opened this year's Swartley Gallery Series with "No Lesson Plan," a look back at his career in denim, from luxury brand PRPS to jersey designs for Nike.

🐾 The Bulldogs are back in action in six fall sports, Upper School students lined up at the Clubs & Activities Fair to sign on for everything from Science Olympiad to Jazz Rock, and the Parents' Association's Welcome Back Barbecue brought out bubbles, a firetruck, inflatable slides, and a visit from Ace the Bulldog.

A friend told me about a family gathering where her three-year-old grandson seemed completely out of control. 🌪

Everyone had an opinion.

"He just has lots of energy."
"He'll grow out of it."
"Someone needs to control this child.”

Finally, his grandfather quietly walked over, knelt down, made eye contact, and said in a calm and firm voice, "You're welcome to play, but you're not welcome to climb on the furniture. Come with me."

No yelling. No threats. No negotiation.

“Am I the only one who feels like giving up? 🤷‍♀️

I have a 13-year-old daughter, and I’m one step away from being DONE.

According to her, everything is my fault, and I can’t do anything right. She’s rude, uncooperative, and we can’t have a polite conversation about anything."

I went through troubling times with one of my kids at the 13- 17-year mark.
