Mix Room has taken delivery of the Undertone Audio UnFairchild 670M II, a modern masterpiece that elevates the legendary variable-mu topology of the original Fairchild 670. While the vintage unit’s six fixed time constants and feedback-driven smoothness are iconic, its tube reliability issues, scarce compontents, and lack of flexibility have always been pain points.
The UnFairchild addresses these issues with circuit refinements for vastly improved tube lifespan, plus four variable attack/release modes ranging from 0.1ms attack to multi-second releases—perfect for tempo-matched compression or aggressive drum shaping that the original simply cannot deliver. Add M/S processing, sidechain I/O for feed-forward options, true bypass, DC threshold adjustment, and left/right balance trims, and you have a compressor that’s not just sonically faithful to the original, but genuinely more versatile for modern workflows. Currently in calibration mode on this beast, as you can see from the 14 tubes exposed when the chassis is removed. Yes, 14 tubes.🔥🔥🔥🔥
Mix Room has built a reputation as a serious destination for producers and artists throughout the Ozarks and Midsouth. With the recent addition of the Undertone Audio UnFairchild 670M II alongside our carefully curated collection of premium outboard gear, we’re able to offer the kind of refined analog processing and flexible hybrid workflow that’s typically only found in top-tier rooms much farther away. We also have some very exciting news around the corner that we can’t wait to share. 👀
