As I varnish this 8 ft wide canvas for a collector in Massachusetts, I’m thinking about how special this place is for me.

This piece was inspired by the Manasquan Inlet, located in southern Monmouth County. I used to drive here after high school to hang out, surf and skimboard with my skater and surfer friends multiple times per week.

Fast forward to becoming a dad, this beach and others around us have become part of our children’s childhood backdrop.

The Jersey Shore is much more than all the fist pumping cliches, and apparently the new Netflix Hollywood and Bruce Springsteen, although yeah, it’s that too.

It’s magical really that I’ve been able to turn my childhood dream of becoming an artist into a reality, but also — to have some of you resonate with my visions and hard work — that’s just wild to me still. I take it for granted sometimes to be honest. I forget how crazy this all is.

Hold on to your passions. It’s hard when you grow up. Don’t obsess over the success part — F the follower count and ego sh*t, that’s all BS. Just make cool things, do the hard work, love one another and yourself and take time to appreciate the beauty and inspiration around you.

Much love.

Another original painting heading out to a new collector.

This oil painting, “Inlet Rocks” is special to me, in that it’s inspired by one of my favorite local Jersey Shore beaches, which happens to be one of the spots that I learned to surf and skimboard on..The Manasquan Inlet.

I love this jetty. I remember climbing on it as a kid and my kids have been hopping rock to rock since they were in diapers.

Poetically, it’s being shipped to a collector in my old home town.

If you’re interested in collecting any of my originals, head to jayalders.com and email me with any questions.

“That’s How You Got Me” (19x28” oil on canvas)

* original painting available

I have another original pulled from my art vault that’s now available for purchase.

This surf art oil painting first began in December 2009 as a live painting demonstration for the Surfing Heritage Foundation store in Costa Mesa, CA.

I began painting while doing a meet and greet with the crowds.

There wasn’t enough time at the demo to complete it, so it sat undone until November 2014

The momentum from the past carried through to a moment in the present.

“Moment of Momentum” - (16x20” oil on panel in wood frame.)

* to purchase, inquire via my studio : [email protected]
