If you want to be able to support us and help us continue to thrive we will have some opportunities coming up to do so!

Maryland’s Hot August Music Festival announced on Monday that its 2026 edition has been canceled. The festival, which has taken place since 1993, cited ticket sales “well below any sustainable level needed to move forward” as the reason for the cancellation.

The 2026 edition of Hot August, presented by 501(c)3 not for profit organization Music Matters, was originally scheduled to take place on August 21st and 22nd at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, MD with a lineup featuring Cory Wong, Galactic, Dogs in a Pile, Eric Gales, Vanessa Collier, Lindsay Lou, Magoo, Unkle Kunkel’s One Gram Band, Owen Stewart, The Fitzkee Brothers, and more.

Over the past ten years of its 32-year run, the small, regional festival has similarly presented an eclectic mix of acts from the extended jam band scene including Billy Strings, Grace Potter, Eggy, Oteil & Friends, Little Feat, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country, Karina Ryklan, Sierra Hull, Lettuce, Lotus, The Revivalists, Andy Frasco & The U.N., Greensky Bluegrass, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, The Marcus King Band, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Old Crow Medicine Show, Neal Francis, and more, often hosting rising acts during their ascent to much larger stages and events.

Hot August is the latest in a recent string of festivals to be canceled in recent years. While it’s no secret that rising tour costs, supply chain issues, aging fanbases, and demographic shifts have made festival production and promotion more difficult than ever in the last few years, Hot August’s transparent recognition of low ticket sales as the reason for the cancellation makes its announcement much more direct than most.

“We have some difficult and disappointing news to share,” the festival wrote in its post. “Hot August Music Festival 2026 is canceled. We put forth our best effort to build a festival that would thrive. Sadly, sales for this year’s festival are well below our expectation and are well below any sustainable level needed to move forward. The live music industry has undergone disruptive change and we are not immune from its effects. We did everything we could to steward the festival, but we have to face the realities of the festival industry as it is today, not how we wish it was. … We are extremely grateful for the support you’ve shown us. Thank you to each and every fan who attended Hot August Music Festival and enjoyed the music with us over the years.”

“If you’ve purchased tickets you will be refunded to the original form of payment (details for the process are available [here],” the post notes. “If you need to speak with us directly or have questions – email us at [email protected].”
