Strouse Woodworking Shaker boxes made from locally salvaged hardwoods

More detailed information can be found at my website: http://www.strousewoodworking.com Welcome.

After many requests, I finally expanded my website and created a page. It is my hope that Facebook will allow a wider range of individuals to view my work in a simple and functional way. Additionally, I hope it will compliment my website, as that is where the majority of information will continue to be located. With regards to my work, I look forward to sharing the idea of combining our b

eautiful hardwoods from Central Pennsylvania with the simple elegance of the Shaker-style box. Most pieces are made to measured drawings of actual Shaker boxes, while others are variations using the same oval bands to form useful carriers and trays. Most of the boxes are made with wood salvaged from storm-damaged trees or through local tree care services. Each piece sold comes with a card including care instructions and also brief information on the tree that it was made from. I am trying to include more of the woods I am working with and the history of the specific trees. Overall, it is my greatest privilege to get to work with pieces that are part of our local history and I hope you enjoy the information about the trees.

Stop by Creekside at the Gamble Mill Friday evening from 5-9.

I just finished a beautiful batch of Spurtles made from figured sugar maple, which was salvaged from trees removed in Park Forest.

Will also have along a variety of elm utensils made utilizing elm logs salvaged from the University Park campus.

We will be on the mezzanine at the top of the steps, just above The Republic and at the entrance to Creekside.

I also stocked the Creekside with live edge pendulum clocks.

Stop by for a drink at either bar, or a fantastic meal in Creekside.

Wow its August 1st already. Had a few people asking about the ornament for 2022 at Centre County Grange Encampment and Fair . So here they are, the Christmas bells. They are made utilizing one of the first trees that I salvaged from the fairgrounds back in 2014. This large white ash tree was removed from the South 1 tent row, near the Recreation Building, due to damage by the emerald ash borer.

I'll be posting some other interesting items and some new trees that I will be working with for this year. So keep checking back and see you soon in building 31 along the Midway.

Feels great to be back at Artsfest!!

Lots of Shaker boxes made from the University Park Elms as always.

New for this year are the pendants and keychains also made utilizing salvaged elm from campus. They are a collaboration with local artist Cindy Hassler, who created the “Tree of Life” from a photo of the massive elm in front of Old Main. The image is then laser engraved on salvaged pieces of elm.

My booth is M-36 beside Old Main.

Mary Beth Wiseman attributes her artistic inspiration to the beauty she finds in nature. She haunts the trails along Spring Creek near Bellefonte, capturing her observations with her camera. Once home, she translates the photos into portraits by hand carving her subjects into rough wooden planks...

Delivered a few more pieces to Penns Creek Pottery this warm afternoon. Sorry if anyone on route 45 was confused by the fast moving red vehicle with a large bag of goodies on the back, hoho. The pottery shop is on route 104 just south of Mifflinburg. Stop by to see their beautiful and functional pottery along with my woodworking and wood carved paintings by Mary Beth Wiseman. This beautifully restored mill is worth the trip just to see the inside.

Delivery day to the Rusty Rail Brewing Company
I dropped off more of the bottle openers today which are available there at the Company Store.
They are made utilizing the charred white oak barrel staves, from barrels used to age beer right here at the Rusty Rail. This batch was from a bourbon barrel, and did my shop ever smell good for the several days that I was cutting and sanding this wood.
Each has two magnets. One for keeping it handy on the fridge and another to hold onto the cap when you open the bottle.
And speaking of barrel aged..While you are there be sure to try the Chonky Boi-Barrel Aged Imperial Milk Stout. It’s a really good beer!!

Moving/Delivery Day

Our son Thomas moved into his new home near Centre Hall yesterday. So this was delivery day for the live edge pieces I have been working on for him over the past couple of months. I am sure there will be many other pieces over the years, but it was nice to get pictures of the first items to be a part of his new home here in the USA, after ten years living overseas.

Can you let me know the price of letter openers?
Love, love, love this coffee table that you made. The bullet pellets make it unique! Looks perfect in my living room! You do amazing work!
We have some AMAZING new products by Strouse Woodworking for you to check out at the Company Store!
First we have white oak bottle openers made from the charred wooden staves of barrels used to age beer right here in our brewery. This particular batch was made from the rum barrels we used to age The Great Old One. Available in the Company Store at our brewpub and online!
We also have a flight tray made utilizing salvaged pine flooring that was once part of our historic building. These flight trays were made to hold six of our 5-oz taster glasses and would make a beautiful addition to your home bar! These trays are handmade by artisan woodworker Steve Strouse and are available in the Company Store at our brewpub, but will not be available for sale online.
Our brewpub is open seven days a week from 11-8 for indoor dining, carry out, and local delivery. Use the link in our bio to make your reservation, order online, or shop our merch at our Company Store online! See you soon!

Am I able to order any of your Elm products online or do I need to visit one of the shops? I live almost three hours from State College so don't get up that way often but would love to purchase a memento of my days walking down the lane of elms.
In support of local business Strouse Woodworking, we are giving away some items from their collection to the next 10 people who tour with us until May 31st and YES that does include the Yeti Cooler and summer necessities if your name is picked from our raffle!! 😎✨
