Meet the Owner!!
Owner and Head Teacher, Miss Brittney!
Born in Toronto, Canada, Brittney Fitzgerald began her dance training at the Joanne Chapman School of Dance under the direction of Joanne Chapman and Barbara Chonin of the National Ballet of Canada. She graduated with honors in 2014 from Point Park University with a Bachelor of Arts and a concentration in Ballet and Jazz, under the direction of Susan Stowe. In 2013, Brittney attended Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s Summer Intensive, and in 2014, she performed at Jacob’s Pillow with the premiere of Simerson and Company, performing works by Brian Simerson.
Brittney has a long-standing relationship with Theatre West Virginia, having performed for three seasons as a dance captain in Footloose, The Addams Family, and The Hatfields and McCoys. During her time with Theatre West Virginia, she also choreographed The Jungle Book and Pippi Longstocking. Since 2025, Brittney has proudly served as the Theatre Manager for Theatre West Virginia, where she continues to combine her passion for dance, theatre, education, and the performing arts.
Brittney has had the pleasure of teaching at numerous Canadian and American dance studios, including working with Abby Lee Miller of Dance Moms. She also completed six seasons with West Virginia Dance Company as a principal dancer. In 2020, Brittney took a leap toward a lifelong dream and opened her own dance studio, Legacy Dance Co. Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards and recognitions, including Teacher of the Weekend at Adrenaline Dance.
Brittney is passionate about giving back to and staying involved in her community. Each year, her studio participates in the Beckley Christmas Parade and supports local families through donations to Toys for Tots. She also shares her love of dance and choreography through Dancing with the Stars of Southern West Virginia, where she has choreographed since 2019 and has proudly earned multiple trophies throughout the years.
Now entering its seventh season, Legacy Dance Co. continues to be a place where Brittney is passionate about helping young dancers discover their love for dance while encouraging them to learn, grow, and build confidence both on and off the stage. She looks forward to another exciting season of watching her dancers have fun, challenge themselves, and grow not only as dancers, but as individuals.
