BIG Summer Art Project Announcement!

The BHS Art Department & BHS Art Clubs will be creating TWO community murals this summer!

🎨 A community paint-by-number mural during Homestead Days where families and community members will help bring the artwork to life!
🏁 A mural for the Gage County Fairgrounds celebrating the Beatrice Speedway, 4-H, FFA, agriculture, and fair traditions.

We are looking for current students in grades 8–11 who want to help create these large-scale public art projects.

Interest Meeting: May 19 at 6:30pm in the High School Commons.

No mural experience needed — just creativity, teamwork, and a willingness to be part of some amazing projects for our community!

Huge congratulations to junior Lily Billesbach for being selected into the Hastings College Open Space Program this summer!

This is an incredible honor and a well-earned opportunity to grow as an artist, explore new mediums, and work alongside other talented students, professors, and professional artists. Experiences like this can open so many doors for the future.

So proud of you, Lily—I can’t wait to see what you create next!

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our incredibly talented fine and performing arts students last night.

These students dedicate so much time, energy, and passion throughout the year for this one opportunity to share their work. It means a great deal to have a community that shows up, celebrates their efforts, and recognizes what they’ve accomplished. We are truly grateful for those who took the time to be there and make the night special.

The Visual Arts Exhibition and collaborative art display open at 5:00 PM, followed by the Performing Arts showcase in the Hevelone Auditorium at 7:00 PM.

Come hungry, too— The Orangemen Odyssey travelers will be serving a spaghetti supper beginning at 5:00 PM to support their upcoming trip.

Art students are out at Wahoo High School for the annual Trailblazer Conference Art event. BHS transported 15 students and 30 works of art for the judged show (results later in the day). We are currently enjoying a demonstration from Midland professor and sculptor Katy Jones .

Huge thank you to Megan King and Kylee Combs of Empress Ink for taking the time to visit our Visual Communications class today!

As part of our tattoo design unit, they shared their process of creating flash and how they use technology in their daily work—including the same tools our students are using thanks to a CTE Perkins grant: iPads, Apple Pencils, and Procreate. It was incredibly meaningful for students to see real-world applications of what they’re learning in the classroom.

What made the experience even more impactful was the time they spent with each individual student, offering thoughtful, constructive feedback on their tattoo flash designs. That kind of one-on-one insight is invaluable.

Community connections like this matter. Giving students the opportunity to learn from local business owners and entrepreneurs helps them see what’s possible—especially in a small community. It’s important for students to know there is space and opportunity here, whether they choose to stay or return in the future.

Megan and Kylee are wonderful examples of what can be achieved through hard work, creativity, and determination. We are so grateful they shared their time and expertise with us!

A huge thank you to the Beatrice Art Guild for hosting a juried art show for our talented BHS students. We also appreciate the BHS FCS department and Art Guild members for providing delicious refreshments. Special thanks to Joanne Neeman and the Beatrice Public Library staff for organizing and beautifully displaying the show.

Most importantly, thank you to the students who stepped out of their comfort zones to share their work. You created such a wide range of fun and beautiful pieces, and it was truly a joy to see you and your art celebrated this evening.

It was a wonderful event, and we are grateful for the support from teachers, friends, family, and community members who attended.

The show will remain on display at the Beatrice Public Library for most of April.

Upcoming BHS art events include the Trailblazer Conference Art show on April 22 and the 5th annual Spring Showcase on May 1.
