Dislocation (noun / concept): the broader condition, the phenomenon itself. Not just a single moment, but the theme that holds many moments inside it.

For 84 days — from June 25, 2025, when I learned my mom had end-stage cancer, until September 16, when she exhaled her last breath and went to her heavenly home — I lived inside that word.

I wrote Dislocation from what I experienced there.

One year later, I release it so it doesn’t continue to weigh me down — and for anyone who has known the strange, disorienting landscape of loving someone while watching them die.

My first memory of Dolly was around sixth or seventh grade, dancing to “9 to 5” in a school talent show with two friends. My mom made our outfits — pink satin with white satin trim — and somehow we even ended up with a huge pink shoe with a clock on it as part of our routine. 😂

That was my introduction to Dolly.

Through all the decades that followed, I kept listening. Whenever I came across those old performances of young Dolly singing with that unmistakable mountain voice, I’d stop whatever I was doing and watch.

I was captivated.

Today, seeing story after story and so much love being shared for Dolly, I kept thinking about what happens when a song truly takes hold of us.

It becomes part of us. And as long as somebody keeps singing it, it keeps living on.

So this came from my heart:
