Inspiration for the month of August

The largest Blue Dogs George Rodrigue ever painted are here.

In 1996, for his Blue Dog for President exhibition at Union Station in Washington, D.C., Rodrigue created five monumental 14-foot acrylic-on-vinyl banners. Thirty years later — and in honor of America’s 250th anniversary — one of them is taking in the view of New Orleans from our Royal Street balcony today.

These are the biggest painted Blue Dogs in existence. Two of them will be on view starting Dirty Linen Night, Saturday, August 8.

It was such a stress reliever to try recreating a blue puppy painting. No one can duplicate the original Blue Dog but I am inspired by the legacy of Mr George. It adds a funny quirky spot on my art wall

Visit this art exhibition it’s a great one

A major art exhibit is making its way to three local venues. 🎨🏫 The traveling exhibition “Free As They Want To Be: Artists Committed to Memory” explores the role of film, photography, and art in remembering the history of slavery in the United States.

See the collection from Aug. 1 to Aug. 23 at the Baton Rouge Gallery, Southern University's Art Gallery and the West Baton Rouge Museum.
