What is art with a soul? It's a Lori. I love the process of creating and sharing art. I feel like each painting includes part of my story.

What I love even more is giving back. Each sale lets me make a micro loan to an entrepreneur through Kiva.com Located in Baton Rouge, LA and owned by Lori Demand.

FINALLY!!! 🙌🍂

A little cooler weather makes me happy for lots of reasons. Boots, jackets, sweaters… but you know what might be my favorite?

SPRAY PAINT SEASON IS HERE! 🎨

Here’s a little sneak peek at some smaller pieces I worked on this week as a warm-up for some bigger, bolder, downright awesome pieces coming.

And trust me, I’m just getting started! 👀

Want to know something I’m NOT good at?

Documenting.

I have no problem sharing my process—I just usually remember to take the photos and video after I’m finished. 😂

I’m working on getting better at capturing more of what happens behind the scenes, so please be patient with me!

Here’s a little of the story behind “Piece of My Heart”—including how it got its name and how it came to life.

Nature gives me so much. Time spent immersed in it energizes and restores me, and that energy finds its way onto my canvas through intuitive movement, texture, layers, and a little bit of impulse.

I literally leave a piece of my heart on the canvas as a way of passing that gift along.

My hope is that when you look at this painting, you feel some of the beauty, energy, and wonder I experience in the natural world.

And yes…those soft white blooms against the greens, blacks, and pale blues were all part of the process of getting there.

Some art sales are exciting. Some are extra special. ❤️

This was one of those.

“No Boundaries” and “Singing My Song” have officially found their new home with a very special collector in Georgia.

She acquired her first It’s a Lori painting six months before I ever decided to turn my art into a business. I didn’t know it then, but that purchase became a pivotal moment in my journey as an artist.

So when she reached out to acquire these two pieces, I was thrilled—not just because it was a sale, but because of where they were going and who they were going to.

Some collectors become part of your story. ❤️

Ever feel like your brain lives in a revolving door?

In the middle of working on 2 commissions and rounding out a collection for The Big Easel, I had an idea pop in my head.

That means ACT NOW to some of us.

I have a special holiday collection coming your way in November and I wanted a special way to package it.

I was working on some beautiful printed boxes, but was having too many challenges getting them the way I wanted.

Idea - hand painted packaging….

Can’t wait to get back to it and share more details.

If you’re not one I bet you know one 🤭.

“DRAMA QUEEN”

This painting wears its title well! You can almost feel it strut into a room with its bold colors and unique strokes.

She might add the drama, but she can play well with others if asked too.

I provided a few pics to show you.

AND…. This piece might be petite at 12x12, but being 2.5” deep, she has a powerful punch.

Confession: I’m a recovering box hoarder. 😂

And I’m pretty sure I’m not the only artist with a stash of boxes “just in case.”

But I’ve decided they no longer serve me.

They take up space.
They attract bugs. 🐜
I never seem to have the right size.
And packing large artwork? Don’t even get me started.

So this week, I tried something different.
I shipped two large canvases in less than 30 minutes.

I wrapped each one in glassine, loaded them in my car, and took them to Baton Rouge Packaging & Shipping.

Yes, I paid them to package the artwork—but they ship art all the time, know what they’re doing, and their shipping rates are better than mine.

More importantly, I get my time back and my collectors receive a professionally packaged piece of art.

Sometimes the smartest business decision is knowing what not to do yourself.
And apparently… letting g
o of my boxes is one of them. 😂

Anyone else ready to admit they’re a box hoarder?

When I retired in 2018, I took my first art class as an adult. My teacher was an elderly man who specialized in watercolor and birds. I’ll be forever grateful for his encouragement and knowledge.

I know he’s the reason I still paint birds.

I thought of him a lot today as I continued to struggle with three new pieces. I’ve been procrastinating and dancing around them for several days, not quite sure where to go.

Then today, I heard Claude say:

“Give them eyes and you give them life.”

So that’s exactly what I did.

And just like magic, the block was gone. Suddenly, I could see a direction for all three paintings.

Full disclosure: they came to life because of the paint I used for the eyes. 😂 After painting the eyes, I felt compelled to swish that same brush across the birds.

And there it was.

The PERFECT color for the spoonbills.

Manna from heaven!

Why did I fight it when I knew it was the right thing to do?

IDK. Because I’m human.

Next time you think someone has all their $ together, think again!!! 😂

There’s still lots of work to be done on these guys, but now I have direction.

And sometimes, that’s all you need to keep going.
