“State capture” is a form of systemic corruption where private interests significantly influence a country’s decision-making processes to their own advantage. This occurs when individuals, businesses, or groups manipulate public policies, laws, and regulations by providing illicit private gains to public officials, thereby shaping the state’s functions to serve their interests.

As part of our Woodstock Center for Awakening’s “Healing Through Dialogue,” we cordially invite you to a Woodstock Community BreakBread Potluck and Conversation. It’s a blast!

BreakBread is a unique way of gathering that invites people into connection and recognition. After gathering in a large group we disperse to tables of 5-6 to have a compelling conversation about a prompt: in this case “home” (see below). FYI, space is limited and REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. To learn more and register (inc. news of what you may bring to the table), visit the attached link (or https://www.breakbread.world/woodstock/ ). Hit “join us!”

Here is this gathering’s prompt on HOME: Maya Angelou writes,
“The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.” What is home for you? Share a story of home or the ache for home.

Please bring friends, family and neighbors, and as Sue Wilens would say, “Spread the word!”

Remember January 6th on January 6th at the Christian Science Church on Monday at 7pm…. Awakening Community Healing Through Dialogue…

Aquilino Gonell, a former sergeant in the Capitol Police, writes: “For those who didn’t experience the violence, Jan. 6, 2021, might feel like it’s in the past — but it’s not for me…. I was one of the fortunate ones that day; nine people wound up dead as a result of the rampage. Two protesters had fatal medical episodes, one rioter overdosed during the uproar and another was fatally shot by a policeman while forcing her way into the House Chamber. One of my colleagues, 42-year-old Officer Brian Sicknick, suffered two strokes after the trauma of fighting off multiple protesters who sprayed him with a chemical irritant. He didn’t survive. Four D.C. policemen harmed in the riots later died by suicide.“

Awakening Community Healing Through Dialogue
Monday, January 6th at 7PM
The First Church of Christ, Scientist
85 Tinker Street Woodstock, NY

Contentious elections, vicious wars, climate catastrophes—we live in a time of anxiety and divisiveness. In the face of mounting threats, we ask, “How do we work together for positive change despite our differences? How do we awaken the time we’re in?”

One way is to foster conversation at the grass-roots level. The “Community Healing Through Dialogue” program will include introductions from the Center for Awakening; a homily by Paul McMahon; a talk on equanimous dialogue with Corinne Mol of the Center for Nonviolent Communication; and a presentation on the nature of community resilience by Michael Raphael, expert in social resilience and conflict resolution. We then will enact what we have learned through a moderated discussion. The program concludes with Robert Burke Warren leading us in a performance of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land.”

This gathering is sponsored by the Woodstock Center for Awakening in collaboration with the Mothership, among others.

Note: we chose to gather on this date, four years past the assault and occupation of the U.S. Capitol, as we sense this event holds a special place in our national psyche’s explicit and latent wound.

We hope we may see you there and please pass the word!

All the best and blessings,
The Woodstock Center for Awakening
& The Mothership
