Happy World Photography Day! 187 years ago on August 19th, 1839, the French government patented the first ever way of capturing a permanent photo. 📸

I captured this photo in the cute, coastal town of Camden, Maine on the 4th of July, 2026. That day marks the 250th anniversary of the United States and we can thank France 🇫🇷 for their assistance in that. It’s fascinating how only 63 years after helping us win the American Revolution, they were inventing the camera.

I initially went to college for two years to become a secondary education history teacher before getting my degree in video/photo production, so there will most likely be a little bit of history sprinkled throughout all of my posts. 🌎

Day 14/14: There’s no place like home! Bringing it back to the state I’ve done my most extensive traveling in and that’s Maine. This here comes from the states crown jewel, Acadia National Park during an extraordinary display of an aurora borealis in October 2024. I’ve been chasing auroras since November 2023 and I got lucky and I also caught the May 2024 G5 storm, NASA reports as one of the strongest auroras within the past 500 years. This one photographed here was still a light show of epic proportions. I learned about it online and had seen a couple before this so I was ready to go somewhere epic. The predictions showed it was very likely to be visible far south and there wasn’t too many clouds so I chose to go to Acadia National Park. I hopped from location to location within Mount Desert Island. I was taking photos in Sand Beach and then noticed my camera was about to die. I snapped a few shots on the walk back to my car and then I captured this one last one hours into my night before my camera died. I’ve taken photos of about 10 auroras within the past 3 years and this remains one of my favorite photos.

Alright, finally! The little surprise! I’m working on a website! One that you’ll all be able to view my work, past and present as well as a place to easily purchase prints of my photos in all kinds of different sizes and options! It should be ready within the coming week, I’m a busy fellow.

Part 2: I’m going through a brand change! I chose the name StratoStorm Photos sometime around 5 years ago before I began college. I changed it not long ago to StratoStorm Visuals to reflect the fact that I’m more versatile and have a degree in film/video production as well as a certificate in photography. However now, reflecting on the name of my brand, I’ve decided to change it to something entirely unique in the world. Using my strong French Canadian heritage and my feeling of living in Maine within the context of the US. But on top of that being northern Maine, growing up with my bedroom window featuring a view of Canada over the St. John River. Mixing that with my name, I have created Storm du Nord.

Day 13/14: The Grandest Canyon of them all! This photo was taken during the final stretch of my grand train trip during March 2026. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience within Grand Canyon National Park. There’s far too much canyon to experience in one day although it’s still very worth seeing from the rim. I traveled to Hopi Point for the best view of the sunset. The best part of Hopi Point is how far it juts out into the canyon so in addition to seeing the sun set over the canyon, you can see how the rays of light paint the walls of the canyon red and orange with the shadows filling with purples and blues.

Day 12/14: This was my most spontaneous adventure yet. I had July 25th, 2026 off of work and I woke up at 6am and the sun was shining through my windows. I knew I needed to do something with this beautiful sunny day. I grabbed my passport and my camera and headed to the small, Canadian town of Lac Megantic. This is right across the border not too far past Sugarloaf Mountain, Maine. I eventually drove thru Thetford Mines where I struggled to order my food at A&W with the entirely French menu but thankfully the guy also spoke English. He asked me where I’m from that I speak English and I told him Maine so I’m guessing that city doesn’t see many visitors.

Finally, I made my way up to Québec City and strolled around the Citadelle de Québec, then walked all the way down to Old Québec, got up close to the famous Le Château Frontenac, and then saw the Amerigo Vespucci and a few more historic tall ships that were visiting the city after their stop in Boston, which I saw then and posted a few days ago. I finally drove the 4.5 hours home and arrived around 2am. It made for a long day but it was absolutely worth it.

Day 11/14: It was May 2025 when my best friend, his family, and I all traveled to Amsterdam together for his 21st birthday. My first time exploring a new continent and a brand new culture. Amsterdam was also celebrating its 750th anniversary which is very hard to wrap my head around living in North America.

The Netherlands 🇳🇱 is world famous for its fields of tulips which just so happened to be in full bloom when we visited. Keukenhof Gardens is the name of the specific site we got to explore. Keukenhof is arguably the most famous tulip garden home to about 7 million tulip bulbs.🌷

My friend and I spontaneously got matching tulip tattoos to commemorate the trip in Amsterdam. I was finally able to overcome the fear of tattoos to get some forever art I’ll forever cherish.

Day 10/14: San Diego was the last decision I made on my great train trip across America and boy oh boy I’m glad I went! San Diego is THE quintessential SoCal city. I posted about my trip online prior to going and an old friend from my hometown who had moved to San Diego about 8 years ago messaged me and we had a whole amazing day together! We got to walk around and eat in Little Italy, see the pandas and more in the world-class San Diego Zoo, and we ended the day seeing the seals and sunset in La Jolla.

Day 9/14: Chicagooo, Chicagooo! It truly is an exciting city with some of the most beautiful architecture in the world. I snapped this photo on September 16th, 2025 after getting to see Lady Gaga perform at her sold out Mayhem Ball. I attempted to purchase tickets to see her on her very limited run, initially six North American cities with New York being the closest to me. I was ready to purchase my ticket but the Ticketmaster app froze and I lost my spot. So I went ahead and searched for the next closest city which was Chicago. I knew it was in a different time zone so I got to try again for my ticket an hour later and I got it as well as a round trip flight for $99. I got to see Lady Gaga and I made a 3 day trip around Chicago out of it.

Day 8/14: Two days before my random Saturday off of work, I saw ads for Sail250 Boston and they actually worked on me. I love a good special event and this was a celebration for the 250th anniversary of the United States which hosted nearly 60 historic and modern tall ships from around the world. The ship photographed here is the German Navy training vessel, the Gorch Fock. 🇩🇪 It was built in 1958 as a replacement to the original Gorch Fock of 1933 which Germany was forced to give up to the Soviet Union as reparations following WWII.

I booked train tickets to leave from Brunswick, Maine at 4:30am. I woke up and realized I’d be 10 minutes late arriving to the station according to Maps so I thought real fast, realized I could cancel those tickets and then buy tickets for the station in Portland, Maine because the train has to pull into a siding which adds 20 minutes allowing me to catch up to the train. I caught the train and made it to Boston by 8am. I took the subway to East Boston and watched the parade of ships sail into the harbor for a few hours. I went over to the Seaport District and got to see some of the ships up close before ending the day with fireworks over the ships in the harbor. The train got back to Maine at 2:30am and I got home around 4:30 with work in the morning around 9:30. An adventure is always worth the inconvenience.

Day 7/14: it was my third day on the train from Maine, March 8th. 2026, and I had spent the day climbing and tunneling through the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The sun began to set after I crossed into Utah and I took this shot of the Utah wilderness a bit west of Green River.

Day 6/14: From the Acadians to the Cajuns, I present to you, New Orleans! I try not to rank my favorite places because everywhere I’ve been is incredibly unique but New Orleans may be my favorite American city. The music, the lights, the people, the culture! This city has it all. I took this photo the day I arrived in New Orleans with nothing more than my camera, a few outfits, and a Spirit Airlines (rest in peace) ticket for $77 round trip. It was only after I bought my ticket did I find out while I was there, on January 6th, 2025, that I’d be able to celebrate the Joan of Arc Festival with the great people of New Orleans.

The Joan of Arc Festival was celebrating Joan of Arc, the Maid of Orléans, France. 🇫🇷 The 2025 festival was celebrating Joan’s 612th birthday and this parade acts as the initial event of Mardi Gras! You may know Mardi Gras as one day of immense celebration every March but it’s actually three months of festivities in New Orleans. The people like to party! 🎉
