A lot of folks in BALLROOM have a heard time letting go of POWER. Difficulty sharing tables they can’t control. In my observation it seems like this deep desire to occupy the same space forever. To have the influence and the authority for as long as possible. To romanticize the past so that you can discredit anything folks do in the present or the future. It seems like there’s this desire to live forever. Instead of reinventing the way you show up it seems like folks rather just control the narrative for not only their story but everyone’s. I think that’s a pretty sad place to be in actually. I think ballroom fascinates simultaneously disappointing me at times because a space that at its core was intended for liberation overtime has reflects back forms of oppression and trauma.
