Pecha Kucha is tomorrow, Wed 8/26!

This time, we'll hear from artists and of Quilt Collective, on arts and creativity as vital parts of aging, multidisciplinary artist , and Tommy Doyle presenting "NOT TIL THE SUN EXCLUDES YOU: International Male and the Pursuit of Happiness."

If you still haven't been, Pecha Kucha is visual storytelling format where each presenter prepares and shares exactly 20 slides. The presentation is set to automatically advance every 20 seconds, ensuring a fun and fast-paced night of engaging talks. Get a glimpse into the past, current, and future musings of folks doing creative, inspiring, and unique work here in Baltimore!

Talks begin at 8pm, Current Space Garden Bar opens at 7:30pm.

Heejo Kim (b. 1995, Seoul, South Korea) is a Baltimore-based painter whose work explores how existence is continually shaped through relationships. Her intentionally incomplete figures inhabit the threshold between self and other, human and nonhuman, inviting viewers to reconsider identity as relational rather than fixed.

Kim received her MFA from the LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art (2023) and her BFA from Hongik University (2018). She received the AHL–T&W Foundation Contemporary Visual Art Award and an Individual Grant from the Belle Foundation for Cultural Development in 2025 and was a Semifinalist for the Sondheim Art Prize the same year.

She has participated in residencies at the Wassaic Project, Vermont Studio Center, Sitka Center for Art & Ecology, and Monson Arts. Her work has been featured in New American Paintings, Artsy, Booooooom, and Artit Magazine, and appeared in the Netflix original series KARMA (2025).

"Demolition by Neglect: Research and Residues," a solo exhibition By Marian April Glebes – on view through Sunday, Sept 13, 2026.

In historic preservation, "demolition by neglect" names a particular kind of violence: not the wrecking ball, but the slow withdrawal of care. A roof left unpatched. A gutter left to overflow. A structure allowed, deliberately or otherwise, to fail under its own weight until failure becomes the justification for its removal. It is a term invented to describe what happens to buildings, but it names something I recognize at a smaller, more intimate scale — the scale of a single household, a single room, a single relationship to the walls that shelter us. What happens when neglect is not an accident of policy or absentee ownership, but a private, ongoing choice? What does it mean to live inside a structure that is not being maintained, and to know that the not-maintaining is itself a message?

"Demolition by Neglect: Research and Residues" takes up this question through the material vocabulary of the Baltimore home: drywall, dust, joint compound, graphite and oil on paper, and other salvaged fragments drawn from my own domestic spaces and places. These are not metaphors I have imported from elsewhere. They are the literal substance of walls — the skin of a house, and the material most often called upon to disguise a wound rather than to address what caused it. Joint compound smooths a crack; it does not ask why the crack appeared. This exhibition asks that question instead, using the tools of documentation, cultural landscape analysis, and conceptual art practice to slow down and look closely at what usually goes unexamined: the accumulated evidence of care given, care withheld, and the long residue left behind by both.

Social Sculpture: Inside Baltimore’s Art Scene: In Baltimore’s art scene, the creative set didn’t wait for the art world to arrive. They built it themselves.

Baltimore has been my home, where I have worked, and where I have lived since 2016. The reason I have stayed, when other creatives were leaving for New York, D.C., or wherever the next thing was supposed to be, is the art and the artists who are firmly planted here. Initially, I couldn’t quite articulate what made the scene so compelling. I just knew it was something real: a creativity that felt palpable, almost atmospheric, and completely contagious. Having spent time working in a Seattle gallery, I knew it was rare.
..The artists and culture-keepers who make Baltimore what it is do it themselves, and they make a way—even when it appears there is no way. The creative economy here is held together by a community of care: It’s authentic, it’s real, and it’s growing through passionate local efforts.

Shakoor Hakeem is a percussionist and improviser whose work expands the role of rhythm in contemporary jazz and creative music. Rooted in Afro-diasporic traditions yet shaped by experimental practice, Hakeem approaches percussion as a tool for texture, space, and collective ritual rather than strict timekeeping. His playing emphasizes tone, restraint, and deep listening, often transforming the ensemble into a living, breathing sound environment.

María Grand is a saxophonist, composer, educator, and vocalist. She has performed with her ensembles all over Europe and North America; she has also played and/or recorded with creative music luminaries such as Joel Ross, Mary Halvorson, Antoine Roney, Nicole Mitchell, and more. Her debut EP “TetraWind” was picked as “one of the 2017’s best debuts” by the NYC Jazz Record and her full-length albums Magdalena, Reciprocity, and Anohin were praised by major publications such as the New York Times, Downbeat, JazzTimes, Billboard, JazzIz, and others. The New York Times calls her “an engrossing young tenor saxophonist with a zesty attack and a solid tonal range”, while Vijay Iyer says she is “a fantastic young saxophonist, virtuosic, conceptually daring, with a lush tone, a powerful vision, and a deepening emotional resonance.”

Bashi Rose, founder of Konjur Collective is a Theatre Artist, Musician, Poet, Teaching Artist, and Filmmaker. As a multidisciplinary artist, Bashi seeks to evoke his ancestors' love/warrior spirit and to engage in collective improvisation that empowers individual artists to fully express themselves outside of capitalist constructs that tend to extract Black expression of its sacred, rebellious, and revolutionary spirit. The pulse and intensity of Bmore reverberate throughout Bashi's creative expression.

Jenson Leonard (b. 1990, Detroit, Michigan) is an artist working across memes and internet culture, sculpture, installation, film, and generative AI. His work explores how digital media shapes contemporary life, identity, and visual culture.

Opening tonight! "Bed Bath & Body Works," an exhibition of works by Heejo Kim, Jenson Leonard, and Danni O’Brien.

Danni O’Brien (they/ she) is an interdisciplinary visual artist based in Baltimore, Maryland. Their practice spans drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and installation, and is rooted in tinkering and queerness, concocting post-human, cyborgian objects and worlds.
