JustRo is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work confronts the complex interplay between personal identity, culture, and the weaponization of history. His practice is deeply informed by a personal journey of navigating the “phantom wounds” of inherited historical trauma, a theme he explores through a unique combination of allegorical painting, documentary portraiture, and storytelling through digital and print media.
 
By weaving intimate psychological narratives with sharp sociological commentary, JustRo’s work captures the feeling of living in a world where one’s reflection is deliberately blurred. JustRo’s art argues that the act of creating is an act of resistance, and that mending the fractured narratives of the past is essential for building a more honest future.

Our Baltimore MET Gala featured artist of the day is G. Pack. G. Pack’s work is rooted in Afro-Spiritualism and portraiture, with a focus on capturing the emotional and cultural complexities of contemporary African American life. He draws heavily from the chiaroscuro techniques of the Baroque period, using light and shadow to create a sense of tension that mirrors the balance between triumph and adversity that defines much of the Black experience in America today.
 
He often explores the paradox of resilience in the face of generational inequality, how joy, cultural expression, and spiritual depth continue to thrive despite a history of trauma and erasure. G. Pack’s goal is to create a visual language that speaks to this duality, shedding light on marginalized narratives and giving visibility to the people and stories that are often overlooked.
 
G. Pack comes from a devoutly religious family with a long lineage of preachers, and that influence shows up in both the themes and energy of his work. Faith, mortality, and the human need for connection are constant threads in his paintings and murals. He sees each piece as a kind of sanctuary, an invitation for viewers to reflect, question, and feel without shame or judgment.
 
G. Pack’s work lives at the intersection of personal and cultural history, honoring where he comes from while challenging where we are headed. He aims to create art that bridges past and present, documenting experience and also helping to shape it.

Brianna Nave is a Black q***r visual artist from Indianapolis, Indiana, working primarily with photography and digital media. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Clark Atlanta University. Her practice centers on observing everyday life—often capturing moments of movement, transition, and stillness within social, political, and communal spaces.
 
Nave’s debut exhibition, Fingerprints of Freedom, was presented at Quid Nunc Art Gallery. She has also participated in Rooted in Tomorrow, an Afrofuturism exhibition in Baltimore, Maryland, and was featured in Art of Caring. Her work has been shown internationally at the Immortal Art Fair in Mexico City, hosted by the Bureau of Q***r Art.
 
In addition to gallery-based exhibitions, Nave has collaborated with educational institutions, including Academically Futuristic, a project developed with Roland Park Elementary/Middle School to commemorate the school’s 100-year history through visual storytelling. Alongside her studio practice, she works in visual communications for the State of Maryland, documenting political and legislative processes through photography and digital campaigns. Her work reflects an ongoing interest in how images function as tools for documentation, memory, and public engagement.

A look back at the opening reception of Synergy—an exhibition celebrating the work of the Best of Baltimore 2025 Award Recipients: Maurice Scarlett III, Jada McAliley, and G. Pack.
