I woke up feeling blessed by my friends from Accra NYC and DMV who celebrated Harmony Park with me and the community at the block party, and by these girls who’ve claimed Harmony Park for themselves and their community❤️‍🔥 I met one of them at the opening. She walked up to me as I was kneeling down, saying, “Those are diabolical!” and pointing at my glasses, then poking them 😭 This is the most diabolical work I’ve produced, though. I love the diabolical world I’m building across Harmony Park, Black Forest, and beyond 🌱 Thanks, , for building the foundation for this work in Baltimore 👊🏿

Harmony Park will include a new version of Energy Poles (2017-ongoing) my series of site-specific, large-scale interactive light installations that use participants bodies as conductors to activate symbols for love, peace, and harmony.

Here’s mine:
How can we become stars in the life-saving constellation of the Big Dipper?
Lifesaver is an ode to the collective efforts of the Underground Railroad conductors who used the Drinking Gourd, a coded song and map to guide tens of thousands of enslaved African Americans in the south to freedom. The chorus “Follow drinkin’ gourd” was code for follow the Big Dipper, an astrological constellation and celestial compass used to orient enslaved people towards the North Star, direct them above the Mason-Dixon Line and into free states. This interactive installation invites you to use your body as a conductor to energetically connect the light poles and collectively illuminate new paths to freedom.
