As we turn the page to a new month (and a new season), we want to extend the biggest, heartiest THANK YOU to all of our amazing volunteers this summer.

You ran registration, operated stage lights, took out trash, and so much more. Your effort helped our events run smoothly, and your great attitudes kept us energized through all the summer heat.

Making Waves, Baldwin City!

What started as a conversation between BCRC and the Lumberyard Arts Center grew into a collaborative project through the BC Community Mural Program, one we are incredibly proud of!

Shaunacee and Jeanette both loved the idea of bringing art to the pool, while our summer camp directors, Amber and Anessa, wanted to give campers a project they could work on throughout the summer at our local art center. The ideas came together, and our camp mural project was born!

Throughout the summer, campers learned about collaborative and interactive art, toured murals around Baldwin City, and drafted ideas for what our mural could become. Those ideas came together in a bright summer design featuring a warm yellow sun and cool blue waves.

The completed mural was revealed to campers and families during our final-day talent show on July 31. After working on it all summer, our campers finally got to see their finished work and share it with their families.

A huge thank you to Katee Smith, the art apprentices and volunteers, our camp staff, and the Lumberyard Arts Center for helping bring this project to life!

Our campers can look at this mural and know they were part of making it happen! They helped shape the design, painted the blocks, and each left their signature on the back. We hope they’ll feel a little extra pride when they see their work hanging at the pool next summer! 🌊🌞

Did you know? The Community Center is more than a place for Open Rec—it’s a hub for the Baldwin City community!

From City Council and Court meetings to teacher trainings, birthday parties, reunions, fundraisers, receptions, job fairs, and senior activities, there’s always something happening under our roof.

Local organizations including Baker University, USD 348, Baldwin Education Foundation, Baldwin City Chamber of Commerce, Rainbow Preschool, and others have used the space for events, meetings, and practices.

And, of course, BCRC uses it for practices, special events, and community gatherings.

Now that’s what we call a COMMUNITY center!

Another refreshing, empowering, and engaging Kansas Recreation and Park Association Women's Leadership Summit in the books!

This year’s summit took place at the beautiful Botanica Wichita, with the theme “Bloom.” Kristen and Shaunacee Wilkinson had the opportunity to network with fellow parks and recreation women and were reminded that true leaders don’t just pursue their own success—they look for ways to help those around them bloom.

Thank you, KRPA, for hosting another incredible summit! The BCRC women are ready to bring what they learned back home to Baldwin City.
