Kern Food Policy Council Ending chronic hunger and food insecurity in Kern County. The KFPC Steering Committee is made up of 5 individual and 8 organization representatives.

The KFPC is a forum of community representatives designed to share ideas, experiences, skills, and knowledge to alleviate hunger and develop a healthy, sustainable food system in Kern County. The KFPC aims to inform decision makers about the impact of the food system in urban and rural Kern County. Council formation is sponsored by the the Community Action Partnership of Kern and United Way of Ker

n County. We invite you to join one of our current Working Groups:

(1) Assessment
The Kern Food Policy Council, with support from the United Way of Kern County is conducting a food assessment. Gail Feenstra, Ed.D., RD of UC Davis, Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education Program, is the lead researcher and facilitator for the assessment. The assessment process is expected to last until mid 2016. (2) Education
How do people gain the knowledge they need to make healthy, sustainable choices? How do we begin to understand our cultural norms around eating? What avenues exist—or need to be developed—for residents to learn? (3) Advocacy
How do we develop an informed citizenry who will, in turn, hold policy-makers accountable to the health and well-being of all people? (4) Community Events
Whether it is screening a documentary or holding special food events, the KFPC seeks public participation in fun ways. Please message us on Facebook, indicating the Working Group you are interested in.
