When we heard Blueberry was unexpectedly canceled because of the wildfires, (and with good reason) --
hundreds of artists, makers, and small businesses were suddenly left without one of their biggest weekends of the year. Instead of accepting that reality, we thought (perhaps foolishly), "Why not?" By that afternoon, Birch Landing Art Fair had a name and a page. Within 24 hours, we had vendors, a location, and the incredible support of city officials, local businesses, and media beginning to build momentum. Every bit of it was driven by one thing: a passion for supporting creators and makers.

What followed was fueled by determination, stubbornness, adrenaline, caffeine, and more than a few sleepless nights. In just six days, we built an event from the ground up—contacting displaced vendors, creating a brand-new social media presence, lining up everything from insurance to porta potties, and promoting it 24/7. We also dreamed up the "Loop," connecting three neighboring communities that were already hosting smaller events, then designed and printed maps, signage, Loop cards, and incentive stickers to encourage visitors to experience them all. Along the way, our page grew to more than 600 followers and generated over 300,000 interactions, proving there was an incredible appetite for something positive to rally around.

None of this would have been possible without an amazing community. The local newspaper amplified our message, regional news outlets shared our story, businesses stepped up, volunteers jumped in, and people across the region rallied behind the idea that when one community faces hardship, neighbors show up. It may be a cliché, but "If you build it, they will come" proved to be true.

Six days.

Thank you, everyone! We’re not done yet!

We'd love to hear your comments and feedback about the weekend - from makers/vendors to attendees. Comment or pm!
