'Everybody Speaks Puppet' is born from idea that puppets can be understood by anyone, anywhere, regardless of language or culture. We use puppets everyday to communicate with others, amuse pets, babies & ourselves without even realizing that's what we're doing. The act of puppetry is shared storytelling that requires the imagination of both the puppeteer and the audience member to transform an object from its mundane existence to a secret creature with an inner life.
The idea behind Everybody Speaks Puppet was first born from a discussion about how to spread engagement in puppetry in our communities. It came in response to the question, 'how do we overcome language barriers with audiences who may not be multilingual in one of the languages our performs speak?' And of course, the answer to that is to rely on the language of puppetry to get our meaning across and engage with our community. Everybody Speaks Puppet.
