It has been a week since the closing of the show. As I reflect on the experience, I remember hundreds of glowing faces, tired and happy dancers, hope flags flying across the stage, journal entries rolled up and slipped inside of glass bottles, looks of hope, satisfaction, awe, and excitment about what is to come. Everyone who was a part of this show and witnessed it has been shifted. Thank you for helping us manifest this amazing production.
As Jasper said in our interview, the end of this show marks the beginning of the journey of Silence To Power. January 2014 marks the beginning of our Texas high school tour. We have been invited to perform Silence To Power at four schools and are looking to add several more. We have developed a body image workshop based on our mulitmedia piece Not Blank Enough, and are in the process of developing workshops on depression and bullying based on Just Snap Out Of It and Duncan Tyler Berget'sWake Up Call. We are eager to share our message with high school students, as all of these topics are relevant to their lives.
We are presenting mostly at public high schools. The majority of them do not have funding to compensate Dance To Empower company members for their time and travel expenses. Dance To Empower is partnering with Movin' Easy dancewear (www.movineasy.com) to raise money for our high school tour. Check their website in a couple of weeks to learn about the amazing work they are doing to help us out. Also keep an eye out for a mini-fundraising campaign on indiegogo to help us cover additonal expenses of our high school tour.
If you are affiliated with a high school in Texas and want to see Silence To Power in your auditorium or our workshops in your class room, e-mail me at [email protected].
Thanks for helping us get the ball rolling. We are so excited about what is to come!
Love,
Bonnie
