Might Be Magic is an Austin-based collective creating spaces for dance, connection, and release. The vibe? Keep the dance floor sacred.

Rooted in house + techno, powered by community, and guided by a touch of magic. Might Be Magic, launched by Claudia Hernandez and co-curator DJ / producer Brett Johnson, emerged on the Austin dance scene in March of 2021 and has quickly become one of the city’s favorite parties. Resident DJ Brett Johnson, known for his groovy, bumping house infused with all the right techno elements, contributes over 25 years of experience to the party giving it it’s authentic, underground atmosphere. Focused on bringing exciting talent to Texas to play alongside Austin’s best-kept local talent, Might be Magic has hosted over 70 parties with headliners such as Mystic Bill, Cinthie, Daniel Bell (DBX), Lauren Flax, Mike Servito, Bradley Zero, Ash Lauryn, Gene on Earth, DJ Diz, Lady D, Bill Converse, Marcos Cabral and the list goes on and on. A healthy dose of house, techno, acid and the occasional disco oddity.

An Austin resident since 2012, CHKLTE became a key part of the city’s underground before taking his sound around the world. From fabric and DC-10 to Sunwaves and UNUM, he’s built a reputation for deep, detailed grooves and sets that lock into the room.

Now, one of Austin’s favorites is back for a proper extended session, with Brett Johnson on opening duties.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 7TH

MIGHT BE MAGIC PRESENTS: MARK GRUSANE (RUSH HOUR | CHICAGO)

This Friday, MBM makes its debut at 6910 Shirley Unit I — formerly known as The Oven — and we’re bringing in one of our dearest friends and favorite selectors, Mark Grusane, to help us break in the room.

The space doesn’t have a name yet. We’re still figuring out what this room is going to become, but we’ll figure it out soon enough.

What we’re not waiting on is the sound.

We’ve been tuning a serious rig for the space for a couple weeks now— the system that used to live at Miami’s legendary Electric Pickle. It felt wrong to keep it quiet any longer. So Friday marks its official debut.

There’s no branding yet. No polished identity. Just a killer sound system, a special lineup, a lot of heart, and a room that’s still becoming itself.

Come get in early with us and help shape what this place becomes. 🫶🏽
